In American history, there have been countless notorious criminals. These criminals have committed heartless acts, usually over and over and over again. These criminals have ruined lives, prevented futures, and have given heart-wrenching pain to more friends and families than we can ever imagine. But it seems as though society rewards these criminals by remembering them and often glorifying them while forgetting the victims. For instance, you all know the names of Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, and Al Capone. But do you know the names of Kathy Kleiner, Anthony Sears, and James Clark? Chances are, probably not. So I’ve decided to start a series called I Survived. I’ll upload weekly episodes, right here, on The Jury’s Verdict podcast page, talking about America’s notorious criminals, but with an emphasis on their victims. Because the real people we should be talking about, remembering, and glorifying are the victims and not the criminals. And we can start doing this by talking about their stories, instead of focusing on the perpetrators. I hope you guys enjoy this series and make sure to tune in for the first episode.

When the double murder of Annette Schnee and Bobby Jo Oberholtzer occurred in Breckenridge, Colorado in 1982, a search to find the killer was initiated. However, after months and months of searching, the investigators couldn't determine the culprit. But decades later, the culprit was finally found. And after doing some more digging, the investigators determined that the culprit had also been destined to die that day, after committing the murders. His life had just been luckily saved.

When Mengqi Ji went missing, the detectives were reaching dead end after dead end. They were fairly certain that the perpetrator of the crime was Mengqi's husband Joe Elledge, but they just didn't have any evidence to prove it. That was until the DNA of vegetation, specifically, trees, helped provide crucial evidence that cemented who the perpetrator was, once and for all.

When Raynella Leath's husband died in a farming accident, she was viewed with pity. But when Raynella Leath's second husband died, she was viewed with suspicion. Because both her husbands had died in such mysterious circumstances, the people of her town couldn't help but call her Black Widow, a term used to call a killer who kills their husbands. But as Raynella was put on trial, the outcome would shock everyone.

In one's lifetime, one will most likely experience a couple close calls. Regardless of what the context behind those close calls is, close calls are bound to happen at one point or another. However, for law enforcement, it is imperative that these close calls are rare. Because the accuracy behind their work puts so many lives at risk. But in 1995, the Springfield Police Department experienced an extremely close call when they almost let Mark Winger, who cheated on his wife, get away with killing his wife, Donnah Winger, and Rodger Harrington.
