  • Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik on staying grounded, being a 15-year overnight success, and his latest tour.

John Ondrasik is the songwriter and performer known as the platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated, Five For Fighting. In the two decades since his first major single, “Superman (It’s Not Easy),” went viral, he's both evolved and come back around full circle.

He's written major hits, including the chart-topping “100 Years,” “The Riddle,” “Chances,” “World,” and “Easy Tonight,” which have earned over one billion streams and place him as a top-10 Hot Adult Contemporary artist for the 2000s.

Five For Fighting’s music has also been featured in more than 350 films, television shows, and commercials, including the Oscar-winning The Blind Side, Hawaii Five-O, The Sopranos and the CBS drama, Code Black.

I truly enjoyed getting to know John, and I was struck by his good, down to earth nature. Plus, you can find him on Linkedin which I LOVE.

Thanks for taking the time, John!

  • Co-founders of Worth the Wait, Mike & Megan Scherer, on cancer, infertility, and turning your pain into purpose.

There's nothing I love more than someone who turns their pain into purpose, and that's exactly what Mike & Megan Scherer did.

After Mike was diagnosed and treated for testicular cancer, he and Megan started trying for a family. When it didn't come easy for them and they entered the world of fertility treatments, an idea was born.

They started Worth the Wait to financially assist cancer patients/survivors who are going through fertility treatments.

I love everything about this couple and their mission, and I hope you'll tell everyone you know about Worth the Wait.

Thank you Mike & Megan! Keep doing great things out there.

Jackie Hutson is a dynamic force, and I'm here for it.

In this episode, we talk about Jackie's entrepreneurial roots, her infertility journey, miscarriages, and how we can do more to support one another. She also shares her new business venture, Piper & Mint, and how she's giving back by partnering with BabyQuest. Oh, and we also talk about Jackie being on Shark Tank. I'm about 100% sure it's going to happen!

    Thank you, Jackie!

  • SZN 2,EP 44. Suraj Hinduja on RTRX, mental health, and how one woman named Brenda changed the course of his life.

    He's baaaaack, ya'll!

Suraj Hinduja returns to the show and he's better than ever (is it even possible?)

We talk all things RTRX because, well, he's the rocket fuel that's taking this CBUS event to the moon! I love hearing about the year over year growth of this event, and how Suraj curates such an incredible experience right here in our own backyard.

He also opens up about his own mental health, and how one person in his life basically changed everything for him.

Thank you for opening up and sharing yourself, Suraj. It's so brave and SO very important.

  • SZN 2, EP 42. Johnny Sirpilla opens up about his book "Life is Hard but I'll be OK" and living a life rooted in gratitude.

It’s not often that I cross paths with someone whose journey to parenthood has been met with similar heartbreak.

When I read Johnny Sirpilla’s book, “Life is Hard, but I’ll be OK” I was blown away by the things that he and his BADASS wife, Susan, went through. Man, what a reminder of just how much pain we endure as humans, and yet some people still choose to find the joy wedged somewhere beneath the suffering.

Johnny and his wife Susan lost their triplets, Nicholas, Mary, and Peter when Susan was 6-months pregnant. That was just the beginning of their unfathomable path to parenthood.

Most people know that my husband and I suffered years of infertility and lost three little girls along the way; Angel, Hope & Jade. Angel (22 weeks) & Hope (16 weeks) were stillborn and Jade was delivered when I was just 6-months into my pregnancy. She fought hard to be with us for 16-days, and her time here was excruciatingly beautiful.

The anniversary of her passing was May 24th, which made the timing of my interview with Johnny particularly raw, but necessary, for me.

It’s important to note that this episode isn’t reserved for people who have dealt with infertility and child loss. Johnny’s story is one of resilience, faith, and overcoming life’s greatest obstacles, and that’s a story I believe we can ALL get behind.

I was connected with Tony Lucca through @kmicque and I absolutely loved him right away. Tony got his start on The Mickey Mouse Club and his career has been full of twists and turns, like being on The Voice, and most recently opening for @brettyoungmusic in Europe.

Tony just released a new EP called Still, and you should go to Spotify and listen now 👂🏽

I loved this guy and I know you will, too.

    Thank you, Tony!

  • SZN 2, EP 41. Dr. Melanie McNally on her childhood and how she helps parents raise healthier kids.

    Send us Fan Mail

Melanie and I were introduced by the one & only Regan Walsh. (If you haven't listened to Regan's episode yet, you can check her out in SZN 1, EP 32.)

Melanie's resume is impressive. She's a  PsyD,  clinical psychologist, brain coach, speaker, and author. Her first book, The Emotionally Intelligent Teen: Skills to Help You Deal with What You Feel, Build Stronger Relationships, and Boost Self-Confidence, gives teens and young adults the skills they need to improve their lives. She also has a second book coming out in September of this year.

In this episode, Melanie recounts what it was like growing up with her parents and 3 sisters in Michigan, how she coped with constant anxiety, and ultimately cut ties in order to design a life that she loves with her husband in the UP of Michigan.

This is a great episode and I HIGHLY recommend it (and her books) for anyone out there parenting in this wild world.

Thank you for being so open and vulnerable, Melanie. You're a star! (And thanks again, Regan. ILYSM)

    xoxo-
