It’s not often that I cross paths with someone whose journey to parenthood has been met with similar heartbreak.
When I read Johnny Sirpilla’s book, “Life is Hard, but I’ll be OK” I was blown away by the things that he and his BADASS wife, Susan, went through. Man, what a reminder of just how much pain we endure as humans, and yet some people still choose to find the joy wedged somewhere beneath the suffering.
Johnny and his wife Susan lost their triplets, Nicholas, Mary, and Peter when Susan was 6-months pregnant. That was just the beginning of their unfathomable path to parenthood.
Most people know that my husband and I suffered years of infertility and lost three little girls along the way; Angel, Hope & Jade. Angel (22 weeks) & Hope (16 weeks) were stillborn and Jade was delivered when I was just 6-months into my pregnancy. She fought hard to be with us for 16-days, and her time here was excruciatingly beautiful.
The anniversary of her passing was May 24th, which made the timing of my interview with Johnny particularly raw, but necessary, for me.
It’s important to note that this episode isn’t reserved for people who have dealt with infertility and child loss. Johnny’s story is one of resilience, faith, and overcoming life’s greatest obstacles, and that’s a story I believe we can ALL get behind.
