The Kids Table D&D | Dungeons & Dragons for the Whole Family

A new band of adventurers answers a call for help, delving deep into an amusement park called The Pits of Peril in search of a lost goblin. But will they find who they're looking for in time, or will the peril in these pits crush them before they've even begun?

Welcome to The Kids Table Presents, our way of showcasing in our our unique, kid-focused way some of the fantastic content out there written by our partners and friends! Our collaboration with DnD Adventure Club features their adventure "The Pits of Peril," a trilogy of books about an adventurers' amusement park filled with troglodytes, skeletons, and the occasional trap or two.

You can purchase "The Pits of Peril" and other Kids' D&D Adventures at DnD Adventure Club (10% off: KIDSTABLE10)

Strengthening your mental wellness can be hard, so why not make it fun with D&D? In this episode, our guest Rachel Gilmore of Ready for Anything Counseling chats with Allison about her work as a licensed therapist who incorporates Dungeons & Dragons into her therapy work with college students & other adults. The mental health benefits of D&D--both in and out of the therapy setting - have only recently been studied, and include developing emotional intelligence, social skills, resilience, coping habits, & more. When you bring kids to the table, their mental wellness gets a boost!

If you or a loved one is facing a mental health crisis, we urge you to seek professional support. Therapy is widely available online (ex: www.betterhelp.com), in your local area, and, for those in the US, via the 988 national suicide & crisis hotline. Help is available. You are valuable. You are not alone.

The first season of The Kids Table is complete! Filmed back in 2022, this amateur actual-play campaign premiered in short episode form in December 2023, publishing kid-friendly episodes every other week until the finale this month--and we've been overwhelmed by the support from the community. In this special episode of Area of Effect, the cast answers fan questions and reflects on the filming process, what it's been like for now-nine year olds Beckett and Khloe to watch their six year old selves play, and what they're excited about for the upcoming season two.

When it comes to collaborative storytelling, it doesn't matter how many people are around the table--it can be a whole friend group, or it can be just you and your kid. In this episode, Allison and Ryan interview The Dad and The Daughter from the actual-play podcast Dadventerous (@dadventurous) about what it's like to play one-on-one and how it enhances the relationship between parent and child. Fred Rogers once said, "Play gives children a chance to practice what they're learning." And in tabletop RPGs, we have an incredible resource to help kids learn while they play. In this episode, Steph, founder of TTRPGkids.com, walks Allison and Ryan through the "beautiful chaos" of adding STEM educational elements to TTRPG games and why any parent--even those with no STEM background!--can do it.
