I’m Ellie McBride, an American expat living in Northern Ireland since 2017. After moving across the world to be with my Northern Irish husband, I struggled to find the flexibility to spend much time back at my other home in Oregon to see my friends and family. In this quest for flexibility, I realized building an online business from the ground up is the way to have everything I’ve ever wanted in life.

I started out as a freelancer back in 2018. As a tech Virtual Assistant, I worked online with business owners in areas like social media planning, creating slick systems and automations, and perfecting their email marketing systems. However, I soon realized many of my clients struggled with the same: Having a beautiful and highly functional website to communicate with their community and open up their time for the tasks that truly needed their attention. I'm wrapping things up over here and apart from an intuitive business planning workshop I am offering on the 27th I'm getting ready to do absolutely nothing for a few weeks. Besides coaching, she loves to philosophize and write about this rollercoaster experience we all go through called being human as well as how to navigate the bumpy rides that our career journey can be some times.

I’ve been living without social media and a smartphone for a while now and it’s something that does seem to raise questions for people. Recently I dug my old iPhone back out because I wanted to share pictures of my garden and my cast post-surgery and it made me pause to see how it felt and if I had missed it. This episode isn’t trying to convince anyone to ditch their phones or apps or whatever it is that makes them happy, especially right now. I just wanted to check in with myself, gather some reflections and then share them with you in case you’re looking for that kind of food for thought right now.
