God’s goal is to have a people who participate in and mirror His love in their relationship with Him, with each other, and with the rest of creation. It is so important for us to understand that God is relational because this can be imitated.

The truest image we see of God in Scripture is through the Person of Jesus revealed on the cross. If we suspect that God has a dark side and is capable of doing the monstrous things that the OT authors attribute to him, we will mistake the “shadow” for the “reality”. 

Many christians today fall into the trap of elevating the written Scripture to the same level of inter-theistic deity. When you do this, you use Scripture not only to build doctrine, but you also put it in the position of proving, describing, and informing what can be known about the character and nature of God.

The Father is clearly seen in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “if you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father” (John 14:9). Hebrews declares, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son” (Heb. 1:1-2). Furthermore, He is “the exact representation of His nature.” God is now speaking primarily through the person and work of Jesus. The two are exactly alike.

John 16:8-11—

This verse covers three interesting dynamics concerning the power of the Spirit to bring conviction to the earth. First, the Spirit brings conviction of sin. Second, He brings conviction of righteousness. Third, He brings conviction of judgment. We see that the work of the Spirit is mature when we are convicted in all three of the these areas. Let's take a closer look at these three dynamics.

Joy must be more than happiness. As we examine Scripture we find some deep and meaningful connections to joy such as strength, abiding in love and endurance. The world needs a healthy dose of Joy and we have an obligation to share with everyone we encounter!
