Hello again Fellow Golfists, 

I wanted to share a great weekend of golf that was the week of The Open Championship from Royal Liverpool at Hoylake and visiting the 3rd round of the Reno Tahoe Open which is also known as the Barracuda Championship from Old Greenwood Golf Course in Truckee California.  

I had a great time visiting Old Greenwood last Saturday.  I followed Cameron Champ for the front 9 and it was an amazing time of seeing proper golf shots hit by proper touring professionals.  l also got to have my picture taken with a guy that has a really good mustache, second only to the reassuring mustache of Nigel Mansell. 

I also got to have a couple of shakedown sessions with my new to me Wilson Staff FG 53 Gooseneck irons from the early 90s.  One little bucket of range balls was at the driving range at Northstar at Tahoe in 95 degrees.  And the other was at the back of the range at Sacramento National  in 108 degrees.  

Special shout out to my Uncle Mike, David Olivieri, and Jesse Parra.

Hello again Fellow Golfists,

Just wanted to see what my Uncle Mike thought about this weekend with The Open Championship from Royal Liverpool.  It was great to chat with him about golf and what it means to him.  I enjoy his viewpoints and perspective regarding golf and it was great to be able to play golf with him when I got the chance at his home club at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby Oregon back when I was a kid.  

I think I watched far too much golf back during the US Open at LACC weekend and I think that I need to hit the road a little bit to visit the Old Greenwood Golf Course in Truckee California this Saturday.  The PGA Tour is making its yearly stop here this weekend and I finally want to see this tournament for the first time.  Old Greenwood is a Jack Nicklaus Designed Golf Course.

Hello again fellow Golfists, 

I got to play golf today after work and had a good day out at Davis Golf Course in Davis California.  If "No Laying Up" can have a "Tourist Sauce" golf video series watching and recording all of the thoughts, processes, and idiosyncrasies of golf rounds that those blokes take part in, I think it is ok for me to give a post round debrief and or press conference, if you will, to share things that I may have experienced and learned out on the golf course during an outing.  

I enjoyed the course set up today at Davis GC and it was also good to get further acquainted with my 1978 Wilson Staff Tour Blade Musclebacks, my "new to me" Wilson Cary Middlecoff Autograph forged deep face blade putter, my Nike VR Pro sand wedge, and the Taylor Made Project (a) golf ball.   

I had the privilege of playing with 2 really good golfers today as well.  Greg and Ken really were a joy to play with.  Playing with those chaps really brought out some great shot making in all of us.  

I was thankful that I had brought enough backup drinking water to get me through playing in 100 degree heat.  And a special shoutout and kudos to the pro shop starter for allowing me to go back and complete the 5th hole today for my handicap after we had to skip it earlier because of slow play.   

I recommend using "My Online Golf Club" for a free way to keep track of your golf scores, that can help you establish a handicap based on your performance out on the course.

Hello again Fellow Golfists,

The 123rd US Open happened last weekend and it was troubling that many golf fans in Southern California were denied the ability to purchase regular grounds tickets to be able to attend the third major golf championship of 2023.  Numerous golf fans make major championships far more memorable and far more relevant.  If I lived in Southern California I would have wanted to attend and enjoy the US Open golf tournament at LACC.  The "lack thereof" of fans last week was sad and showed that the game of golf made a critical mistake of pushing aside the loyalty and dedication of many millions of golfers of all ages and of all backgrounds.

Hello again Fellow Golfists,

Well its US Open week and this year it is at the highly anticipated North Course at Los Angeles Country Club.  I have been looking forward to this tournament for a long time and now it's here.  Nobody has ever seen this golf course on television and from what I have seen it is a golf course that is unlike any golf course I have ever seen on television.  From a design perspective it is a masterpiece with a little bit of a sig alert on the 405 freeway.  I really look forward to watching this on tv this Father's Day weekend.

Hello Again Fellow Golfists,

Well Brooks Koepka just won his third Major Championship in New York State.  He dominated on Sunday during the final round of the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill CC in Pittsford New York, just outside of Rochester.  He won with a winning score of 9 under par over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler.  This marks his fifth major championship win.  

A little known PGA professional named Michael Block from Arroyo Trabuco GC in Mission Viejo, California stole America's hearts and minds with his final round play yesterday finishing in 15th place allowing him to be exempt into the PGA at Valhalla in 2024.  His play on the back nine was written very much like a screenplay for a Tin Cup type of movie.  The roar after his hole in one on the 15th hole was very similar to a Buffalo Bills touchdown pass in the final seconds of an AFC Playoff game.  

I had a good time watching the final round on CBS yesterday and also am thankful that they completed all of the play on Saturday during the rain to then finish on Sunday at the regularly scheduled ending time.  

Very much looking forward now to the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles CC next month.

Hello again Fellow Golfists,

It was great to be able to watch the final round of the 2023 Masters Tournament on CBS.  Jon Rahm won it by 4 strokes and put on a clinic keeping his head together.  Rahm was not rattled by anything other than maybe a little bit of slow play.  His ability to play Amen Corner EVEN par on Easter Sunday was magnificent.

I hope to be able to complete watching the documentary that CBS made for Tom Weiskopf.  Mr. Weiskopf passed away in 2022.  He had runner up finishes at The Masters 4 times.  He won the 1973 Open Championship at Troon.  I remember watching him win the United States Senior Open at Congressional Country Club in 1995.

Hello again Fellow Golfists,

I got to watch recorded coverage of The Masters on Saturday and was entertained by it.  I also enjoyed listening to many interviews leading up to the start back on Thursday.  I wish that there was no rain but hopefully it will all work out for good tomorrow on Easter Sunday.  

I am thankful to have heard the interview with Watson, Player, and Nicklaus after the ceremonial first tee shots back on Thursday.  They really made some good comments on the future of golf and how having a longer golf ball makes golf less enjoyable.

Hello again fellow Golfists,

Happy Master's Week 2023.  I have been really looking forward to The Masters this year and I am now saddened because of the weather forecast going into this weekend.  I hope the tournament happens in it's entirety with out any issues.  

I have been really thinking about the future of golf and the issue of rolling the golf ball back.  I share my opinions as it relates to the amateur game.
