  • Lessons from a prostitute and a killer| Episode #3

    What does it mean to be a lady or a gent of God? This title LGOG is inspired by the term "a man after God's own heart". See 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22. The context of these verses tells you that it means doing what God tells you to do. What a standard! But is perfection in its fullest is what it means? I don't think so, when I look at the one (the only one) God said was a man after His own heart: David. Or when I zoom into the life of Mary Magdalene. For me, it all boils down to being humble, be sincere, see your need of God and desire to be the embodiment of God's will. Psalm 51:17 says "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise."     The feeling of being not worth it has a story. In this story there might be some trauma or experiencing continually that you are not meeting the standards that have been set. Acknowledging the feeling of not worth-it and knowing your story gives you the opportunity to start writing your own story. Imagine the story that you would like to be true in your life. That imagination is an important bridge from reality past to reality future. Focussing on the future is not only a great strategy of solution-focused therapy, but it's also Biblical.
