Throughout history there has been an innate fear of something big falling out of the sky. In the previous podcast about Giants, the Dark Angels fell out of the sky, according to the first book of the Bible, propagating a species of Giants that culminated with the destruction of Earth as mankind knew it at the time, by a worldwide flood.

Hollywood has made its share of end-of-the-world movies over the years. The Bible has a story about that subject, and all the special effects in the world could not portray the horror and the terror of those days. In my book series THE END THE BOOK: Part One follows Jeffrey Ross and a group of senior citizen friends and ex-military as Islamists take their war to the Bible-Belt, and Atlanta suffers the first nuclear strike on U.S. soil. After a break in at CDC, the Spanish flu virus is released on the world, and millions die as the virus mutates. A hijacked nuclear submarine makes its way toward the United States, and Jeff begins to wonder if the end really is near. He doesn't even believe in the Bible. Though fictional, there are many ways that life as we know it could change instantly.

On September 11, 2001, terror came from the sky in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. In 1908, terror came from the sky over the Tunguska River in Siberia, an exploding asteroid 5 miles above, destroying 800 square miles, millions of animals and flattening 80-million trees.

Near Earth objects zoom by the Earth every day, and thank God we have the means to detect many through The Goddard Space Flight Center, Maryland and JPL in Pasadena. Very few people are aware of how fragile Earth really is, but we are a target among thousands of asteroids, many burning up in Earth's atmosphere, daily.

Giants. We are not talking about the football team,

Giants. The very word evokes a sense of awe, people as tall as buildings with the potential for utter destruction, and the possibility that they may eat you like in so much of mythology. Like the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk.

My mom used to read me the story of Jack and the Beanstalk when I was a kid. Scard the you-know-what out of me. It was a fairy tale but the original might be banned in the world of today or at least rated PG13.

This podcast may not be for the weak-hearted so a word of caution. Send the children out to play, grab a cup of coffee and take a seat on the couch. You may want to put on a seatbelt. 

Have you ever wondered if giants really existed in our past? No matter what the culture or religion, if they go back long enough there will be talk of a time when giants roamed the world.

They weren’t very nice guys apparently, and most scholars write them off as mythology. The Bible had something to say about giants, known as the Nephilim and are mentioned from Genesis to Jude.

Here is the first mention and takes place as early man was beginning to populate the known world at that time:

“When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.'

“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” (Genesis 6:1-4) NIV
