A top FBI agent at the Washington field office reportedly resigned from his post last week after facing intense scrutiny over allegations he helped shield Hunter Biden from criminal investigations into his laptop and business dealings.

Timothy Thibault, an FBI assistant special agent in charge, was allegedly forced out after he was accused of political bias in his handling of probes involving President Joe Biden’s son, sources told the Washington Times on Monday.

According to The Wall Street Journal’s editorial on Aug. 26, the heavily redacted version of the FBI affidavit doesn’t justify the raid of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

“It’s possible the redactions in the 38-page document release contain some undisclosed bombshell. But given the contours of what the affidavit and attachments reveal, this really does seem to boil down to a fight over the handling of classified documents,” the article says. “It’s hard to believe that a dispute over documents would yield a criminal indictment. Attorney General Merrick Garland would have to explain to the public why Mr. Trump’s behavior was so much more nefarious than other cases of mishandled classified documents.”

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced a sweeping effort to forgive up to $20,000 of federal student loan debt for Pell Grant recipients, and up to $10,000 for other qualifying borrowers. Biden also extended the federal student loan payment pause through Dec. 31.

According to an analysis of Biden’s plan by the University of Pennsylvania out Tuesday, such a wide-ranging bailout will come with a price tag of $300 billion to $980 billion for American taxpayers. Furthermore, the university calculated that “between 69 and 73 percent of the debt forgiven accrues to households in the top 60 percent of the income distribution.”

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, once a rising star in the Republican Party and considered a potential speaker of the House, told ABC News she has no regrets about her political career, including her landslide primary election loss in Wyoming on Tuesday. Moreover, she is hoping to turn her landslide loss in the primary into a nationwide crusade to keep Donald Trump out of the White House.

Cheney said she would also find it difficult to support a future Republican presidential candidate whom she calls one of the “election deniers,” such as Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is now “campaigning for election deniers.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), who is one of two Republicans serving on the Jan. 6 committee, said on Friday that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lacks a “moral center” for allying himself with former President Donald Trump.

“We worked together in Congress. He was as hawkish as I am, very much a believer in what America stood for. Went off to the administration, did a good job at the CIA, became secretary of state, and basically did Donald Trump’s bidding,” Kinzinger said.

“Let’s be clear here, [Pompeo] wants to run for president. He knows that he cannot go after Trump and run for president. He’s hoping Trump doesn’t run and he can use that lane, so he’s trying to walk a tightrope.” Kinzinger continued. “That’s somebody without a moral center, and he had a moral center.”

Sam Harris, a prominent atheist and liberal podcaster, defended Twitter’s censorship of the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop report just weeks before the 2020 presidential election. He admitted the censorship “absolutely” was a “conspiracy” to prevent Donald Trump from winning re-election, but argued it was justified during an interview on the Triggernometry podcast Wednesday.

“Hunter Biden literally could have had the corpses of children in his basement, I would not have cared,” Harris told Triggernometry hosts Konstantin Kisin and Francis Foster in a video clip that has been viewed online over 2.1 million times on Twitter.

Liz Cheney, the Republican who waged a war against Donald Trump, hinted Wednesday about a White House bid after losing her Wyoming primary in a landslide. She even compared herself to Abraham Lincoln in her concession speech Tuesday night.

“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all,” Cheney told a crowd of supporters in Jackson, Wyoming. “Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”

In a region that has seen rising crime rates and brazen smash-and-grab robberies and home invasions, an effort to recall Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was rejected Monday, with the county clerk’s office announcing that over 195,000 of the recall petition signatures were found to be “invalid.”

The failed attempt comes after San Francisco voters in June recalled another progressive California criminal justice reformer, District Attorney Chesa Boudin.

According to the unsealed search warrant for Mar-a-Lago, the FBI was looking for evidence of crimes related to obstruction of justice, removal of official records, and the mishandling of information relating to the national defense.

Doesn’t this search warrant give you déjà vu?

On July 5, 2016, FBI director James Comey issued a statement on why the FBI did not recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for mishandling “defense information,” some of which was classified at the highest levels of secrecy.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said that he “personally approved” the decision to seek a warrant for the FBI to search former President Donald Trump’s Florida home at Mar-a-Lago.

“The department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken,” Garland said.
