Kris Paul has served as the President of the Inventors Network of the Capital Area since 2015, and has become a critical facilitator for many independent inventors, with contact resources, methodology guidelines, consultation, and some inspiration for the disheartened.  As an inventor himself, and active advisor for several independent inventor projects, Kris has navigated many of the same paths and roadblocks that most inventors face.

Mr Paul started in inventing and problem solving as an Industrial Engineer in the Boston area, working in the mini-computer and semi-conductor capital equipment industries. After receiving his MBA, Kris held consulting and management positions in several start-ups in Novell computer network integration, dump truck & trailer products, and most recently in the Federal and overseas 911 telephony equipment industries.  Kris now operates Kreative Products, LLC as a commercial vehicle for both his own products, and those of his inventing associates.

Vicky Westra is the mother of Gabbi, a young adult with Autism who was diagnosed with autism at the age of four.  Because of the dismal outcomes Vicky was seeing for her daughter and the broader Autism community, she started a Non-Profit organization with a mission to create a new world for autism.  Vicky and her organization believe that those in the autism community have to join together to create opportunities and the necessary changes those on the autism spectrum to lead their lives on purpose.  This includes employment that matches their unique talents and interests.  Find out more about ways to get involved in this world changing mission!

Rick has been a pioneer in the Direct Response advertising industry since the early 90Тs, and has used Brand Response strategies to help build many iconic brands from scratch such as Juiceman, Sonicare, The George Foreman Grill, OxiClean, Clarisonic, Rug Doctor, Momentus Golf and many others. Rick has helped take companies like GoPro from a start-up to over a billion dollars in sales in just a few short years.

The author of “Buy Now, Creative Marketing that getsCustomers to Respond to You and Your Marketing“, my newest book, Building Billion Dollar Brands, is due out in Summer of 2018.”

Rick continues to be on the cutting edge of new Brand Response advertising campaigns, creating and implementing innovative cross-platform strategies with digital and mobile ventures for his clients and is currently focusing on video marketing as a leading media direct response platform for increasing product sales.

When not working Rick enjoys, reading, skiing, fishing and hiking. For his 50th birthday he achieved one of his goals and successfully summited Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley) in Alaska.  He resides with his wife Martha and three French Bulldogs in Seattle, Wa.

Laura Peter is the Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In this role, she is responsible for all agency operations and managing approximately 13,000 employees.

Prior to joining the USPTO, Ms. Peter was the Deputy General Counsel of A10 Networks, where she oversaw daily legal matters related to commercial agreements, litigation, and intellectual property (IP) portfolio development. In 2014, she helped shepherd the company through its initial public offering.

Ms. Peter has practiced IP law for over 20 years. Previously, she was Vice President and General Counsel of Immersion Corporation, where she led all aspects of the company’s legal issues, including its IP portfolio. She was also Assistant General Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property at Foundry Networks, where she built a successful patent portfolio and litigation program. She began her career as a commercial and IP litigator at Townsend, Townsend and Crew (now Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP).

Ms. Peter received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Cornell University and a master’s in public policy from the University of Chicago. She also holds a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law and a Master of Law degree in international business law from King’s College London.
