Ahhh, what a great quote. I wholeheartedly agree with what Steve Jobs is saying in this quote. I have been in roles at work that I did not love. Some I didn't even like. It was tough to get up in the morning to go to work.

We spend the majority of our lives working. Whether it be working for someone else or ourselves, we spend more time at work than we do with our family and loved ones. Most of us enter careers because it's something we are interested in or passionate about. Many of us enter careers because it is something we fell into. Many of us enter careers because it's something someone else wanted us to do.

Whether you are working doing something you wanted to do, something you happened into, or are living someone elses dream for you, you want to be satisfied with your work. If you are like me, you want to believe you are doing great work.

I will tell you from experience, the times where I felt like I've done great work is when I was doing something that I loved doing. I have done work that I didn't particularly like doing. I've done work that I had to do to make a living. I was not doing it because I loved it, I needed to make money to pay the bills.

If you are starting your career but aren't sure what you want to do, start thinking about what you love to do. What is enjoyable to you? What are you passionate about?

Write out a list of things you like to do, that you really get excited about that you get into "The Zone" when you do it.

Put your Strengths , Passions, things you are good at and love to do on the left hand side. Put a line down the middle of the page.  On the other side of the line, put Careers.

Look at your strengths, passions and things you are good at and love to do and then look up careers that will let you do what matches these items. This will be the start of your best career choices that will help you be satisfied with your work.

Do you want to do Great Work? Do you want to be satisfied with your work, your life?  As Steve Jobs said,

"the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

Ahhh, what a great quote. I wholeheartedly agree with what Steve Jobs is saying in this quote. I have been in roles at work that I did not love. Some I didn't even like. It was tough to get up in the morning to go to work.

We spend the majority of our lives working. Whether it be working for someone else or ourselves, we spend more time at work than we do with our family and loved ones. Whether you are working doing something you wanted to do, something you happened into, or are living someone elses dream for you, you want to be satisfied with your work. If you are like me, you want to believe you are doing great work.

I will tell you from experience, the times where I felt like I've done great work is when I was doing something that I loved doing. I have done work that I didn't particularly like doing. I've done work that I had to do to make a living. I was not doing it because I loved it, I needed to make money to pay the bills.

If you are starting your career but aren't sure what you want to do, start thinking about what you love to do. What is enjoyable to you? What are you passionate about?

Write out a list of things you like to do, that you really get excited about that you get into "The Zone" when you do it.

Put your Strengths , Passions, things you are good at and love to do on the left hand side. Put a line down the middle of the page. On the other side of the line, put Careers.

I do find this quote funny and interesting coming from the guy that invented the Atari. I remember playing the Atari 2600 after work one day and realized at 3 a.m. that I had been sitting on my butt playing a video game for 8 hours. That being said, when I realized it, I put away my Atari and now rarely play video games. But it has become a multi-billion dollar industry and I didn't do anything about it then and I understand what Nolan Bushnell says here.

Entrepreneurs start as dreamers. They all have an idea, but the thing that separates them from everyone else is exactly what Nolan Bushnell says, they decided to do something about their ideas now. Not tomorrow, not next week, but today.

The key is to get off your but and start doing something. When you have idea do something now, not tomorrow, not next week, TODAY.

Have you ever had a great idea and you sit on it and the next thing you know you see your great idea on the store shelves or on TV. The difference between them and you is they didn't sit on it. They got off their butt and did something with the idea.  They didn't stop at being he dreamer. They became the doer.

It's as simple as that!

If you don't know Erma Bombeck, she was an American humorist, who wrote about life in suburbia from a mid-western housewife's point of view in a newspaper column. Her column was read by millions and she became a prolific writer, television personality and an American icon.

Her quote is serious and something that we should all think about. We have been given the gift of talent. We all have the ability to be something that we want to be. We have a brain that reasons, that learns that has the power to dream. The other gift we have been given is a body that can do. Our body has the ability to do  great things, to make great things; to take those dreams and create something from them. That's Talent.

When you are at the end of your life, what would you tell God? What will you tell yourself? Those are the only two that matter. Your God and Yourself. Will you be able to say to both of them that you spent all of the talent you were given. Will you be able to say to them, "I used EVERYTHING you gave me?" When it comes to our talents, we should die broke.

I can see Erma asking that question when she passed.

That voice in your mind doesn't believe you can do it. You have limiting beliefs in your own subconscious mind. This type of thinking is often referred to as the Impostor Syndrome. Your mind tells you that you aren't good enough to do or be what you dream to do, to be.  It wants to make you believe that you are an impostor, not the real thing.

That's Crap! Don't Let Your Mind Play Goalie For The Other Team!

Van Gogh must have often fought this internal voice himself or he wouldn't have mentioned this in what has become one of his quotes. He must have been fighting that Impostor in his mind. At some point in his life he realized the truth. To overcome this negative voice, this limiting belief in his mind, he had to do the thing he was being told he couldn't do.

When you hear that voice telling you "you cannot paint" then just paint. That voice will be silenced. That's the easiest way to tell that voice to SHUT UP! Do what it tells you can't do.

You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore. –Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was an explorer. Columbus had dreams. We are often explorers in our own lives. We often have to make the proverbial journey across an ocean. We have to do something we have never done before. Maybe even something no one has done before. That's a scary thought.

Letting go of our past, getting out of our comfort zone can be frightening. But, like Columbus and other explorers before and after him, we must have the courage to lose sight of the shore if we are to cross the oceans before us.

It is possible to leave the shore, to leave your comfort zone and it's also possible to cross the oceans in our mind. We can achieve the goals and dreams we have before us.

You don't need courage to cross the ocean, just to leave the shore and then to lose sight of it. Once we do that, the other side is easy to see.

Go Out Today and Let Go of the Shore! Be Courageous! Cross Your Oceans.
