Bonita Zarrillo was elected as the Member of Parliament for Port Moody – Coquitlam in 2021. She is currently the NDP Critic for Infrastructure and Communities; Disability Inclusion and the Deputy Health Critic. Zarrillo is a member of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.  

In her community she is known to be a voice for equality. Zarrillo drives systemic change that puts people first. Before coming to Ottawa, she spent 3 terms as a municipal city councillor advocating for working people and supporting the needs of the most vulnerable in the community. She championed buy-local, challenged pipeline corporations, and completed a successful housing affordability strategy that generated the most rental housing starts in the region. Bonita gets things done. 

Past board and committee roles include: Fraser Health Municipal Government Advisory Council, Multiculturalism Advisory Committee, Metro Vancouver Indigenous Relations Committee, Universal Access Ability Advisory Committee, and Board Member Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Zarrillo has also sat on multiple Not-For-Profit boards that advocate for gender identity and equality and has been a regularly panelist at The Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations.  

Before being elected Bonita worked as a Business Analyst for food and beverage companies across North America and Europe. She has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Manitoba, a Human Resource Management Certificate from the University of Calgary and has a Computer Science Degree from CDI Montreal.
