It’s been almost two years since I sat behind this microphone, and apparently we have a lot to catch up on.
When I recorded the first season of The Life Coach KMack Podcast, I was unemployed. That came after a cancer diagnosis, surgery, returning to work - and losing my job three weeks later.
I thought I’d find another job quickly.
I was very, very wrong.
What followed was almost a year of job applications, interviews, fear, financial uncertainty, and trying just about anything I could think of to make money. DoorDash. T-shirts. Fiverr. TikTok Shop. And yes... even feet pics.
Pride had to go.
But somewhere in that year, other things were happening too. An Ed Mylett podcast sparked an idea that became a coloring book. I found myself sitting in rooms learning things I never expected to learn. I was reminded of my faith at a time when fear had gotten incredibly loud.
And eventually, I broke down in front of my sons and admitted what I hadn't wanted to say out loud:
I didn't want to do this anymore.
I didn't want to be this miserable.
I didn't want to be this afraid.
I needed a job.
Their response?
“You’ll figure it out, Mom. You always do.”
And I remember wondering whether I'd taught them the wrong thing - that Mom could always fix everything - or whether maybe I'd taught them exactly what I hoped I had.
This episode is about what happened when the woman who always figures it out genuinely wasn't sure she could.
Maybe resilience isn't knowing you'll figure it out.
Maybe it's continuing to try when you genuinely aren't sure you will.
Welcome back to The Life Coach KMack Podcast.
Season 2 starts here.
Here’s to a little more breathing room.
