Unfortunately, when we say that "the family is the basic building block of society", we are mostly thinking about breeding and nurturing. As such, we live in families that exemplify no purpose beyond the basics of growth and development.
Could it be that we can have our consciousness pricked so we can start raising purpose-driven families that look beyond survival and on to impact and transformation? Listen to this.

Well, I am not saying that it's perfect. I am not saying that there is nothing wrong with the education system. Far from it. All I am saying is that the collosal blame on the system is unfair considering several things.
Sure enough, it needs to be improved but I can tell you that you can improve it all you want but if society does not change, you will be doing useless work. Here is a summary of why we shouldn't be blaming the education systems.

We blame the education system for raising zombies... people who can't think for themselves, own a decision, make a recommendation or any of the self leadership stuff.
We would be very wrong in doing that. Ask yourself this: whose prerogative is it to raise leaders? Whose responsibility is it to raise self leaders and critical thinkers? The school system? Think again as you listen to this.

If you were to line up the people that have a bone to pick with the education system, you will have several miles of line of humanity, a large percentage of which are the products of the self same education system they are blaming.
At times, talk is cheap. I am contending that this blame is unfair because it needs to be painted elsewhere for the very reason that education doesn't exist in a vacuum. Listen to this.

If the education system was wrong to the extent that it has been blamed, how come it IS still producing? How come it's still giving us skilled labor?
We err greatly when we compartmentalize education from society and it's unchanging expectations and status quo. We blame it as if it's existing in a bubble. Every time you are blaming the system, you are letting someone else off the hook. Listen to this.

We all have been guilty of this, at least I have. People who once were illiterate and ignorant have now gained so much knowledge and cognitive skills from the education system that they are now able to blame it for failures in society. Paradoxical.
I invite us to take a review of ourselves and THINK again. They system isn't to blame, at least not 100%. Even in this day and age, it is still helping millions, if not billions the world over. Listen to this.
