February 27, 2019Episode 58 - Value Self-ExpressionValue Self-expression. Feeling free to share who you are and what you believe in. It’s really built into the fabric of American society. Most forms of expression are protected under the First Amendment, freedom of speech. To say how we feel and what we think even if it goes against popular opinion. How do you support your own self-expression? Do you have a creative outlet for it like writing, singing, painting, dance, make-up, fashion, making music or some other form of art? Or perhaps it’s a platform you support through rallies, marching, protests, fund-raising. Self-expression is more than words. It’s the embodiment or extension of something inside you. Want answers? February 26, 2019Episode 57 - Value SecurityValue Security. This is a sense of being anchored and feeling rooted. This could be secure within ourselves, secure in a relationship. Other ways that we have security in this world are through status symbols, homes, jobs. We’re in this era where things are changing so quickly with a generation that is not as attached to their things and choosing more experiences. We have to ask ourselves what does security mean then? Being able to choose where we can live and travel, having skills that are transferrable and marketable in a quickly evolving global economy, confidence that we can leverage our income and talents into a lifestyle of shared experiences? Don’t underestimate the power of this value. Entire kingdoms have risen and fallen based on how secure the people have felt in the governing bodies ability to keep them physically and financially safe and sometimes walled in. What makes you feel secure and gives you a sense of security in your life? Want answers? Send your questions, comments and thoughts about life to [email protected]...more1minPlay
February 25, 2019Episode 56 - Value RecognitionValue Recognition. I feel like sometimes millennials get a bad rap for needing so much recognition. But before there were ever millennials, the studies from businesses about what employees needed the most to feel like they belonged and were making a contribution was to feel recognized. This was the number one thing, to be recognized for doing things at your company, the work that you are paid to do. The people who are really great at this tend to be words of affirmation people. That’s the benefit of making sure you always have someone like this on your team or within your company. Because they don’t hesitate to say it, to give that recognition and they’re so free with it. It costs nothing and it makes people feel so good. My challenge: Identify one thing that you can appreciate and give that recognition to someone today. Notice if that is hard for you. Want answers? February 24, 2019Episode 55 - Value RelationshipsValue Relationships. For me, I define business as the relationships that support my livelihood. Sometimes that’s relationships with inanimate objects like tech, mobile phones, computers. Relationships are about valuing the people and never forgetting the people in the equation. How are your relationships? When it’s all said and done, are you a kind and tolerable enough person that you can share what you have with those that you want to have around at this stage in your life? Want answers? February 21, 2019Episode 52 - Value IntegrityValue Integrity. I looked up the definition. My favorite one was to be whole and undivided. What I loved about it was this sense of completeness. That you’d be whole within yourself and whole outside of yourself. That would mean integrity of speech, integrity of action. From the beginning to the end you could see the integrity because it would feel whole. I think there's even a wholeness in the emotion that it shines through in the speech and the action. It’s so complete. Not only to yourself but to somebody on the outside. There’s something really beautiful about a value that has this sterling quality. I feel like it’s the value that inspires the most trust. Want answers? Send your questions, comments or thoughts about life to [email protected]...more1minPlay
February 20, 2019Episode 51 - Value IndependenceValue Independence. Being able to rely on yourself for the things that you need, to be able to be self-sufficient. As l was growing up that's all I wanted. I fiercely wanted my independence. I suffered as a child feeling like I had to rely on my parents' income for lodging, things like a roof over my head and clothes on my back, that I couldn't make my own life. I was a very precocious child apparently. Independence is the value of self-determination. The ability to think for yourself. The right to control your own life. Confidence in the ability to govern yourself. Is there an area of your life that still masters you that you need to master in order to feel independent? Want answers? February 19, 2019Episode 50 - Value HumorValue Humor. One of my favorite human beings on earth is Will Smith. He just makes me laugh so much. He could be delivering an important message but I feel like it’s infused with humor. There’s something to be said about going through our day to day life experiences and finding the humor in all of it. The funny ways that the universe pokes fun at us, that it has its own sense of humor. That it gets a giggle out of us. I think it’s a wonderful perspective to adopt. There are also a lot of conversations that we have where a little humor would go a long way. What’s something that you take a little bit too seriously where you can inject a little humor? February 18, 2019Episode 49 - Value HonestyValue Honesty, There is something really brilliant and brutal about honesty. If you ever have a chance to spend time with young children who have no filter because they ask their questions or point out things and say the things that really come to mind. My little nephew loves to come up to my sister (she'll kill me for telling this story) and put his hands on her stomach and say big belly big belly. He cackles away as he does it because for him it’s the most fun thing. He means nothing malicious by it at all. For him it’s just another game. People who have no filter can be a breath of fresh air unless they are talking to you in which case it may feel like a slap in the face. Sometimes that’s the beauty of having someone new in our life who has no context. They don’t know you well enough to tiptoe around your sensitivities. Want answers?
