Dear friends,
I’ve just released a new solo podcast episode that I hope will stir a few thoughts — and maybe a few hearts.
It’s called “The Beauty We Overlook”, and it’s a deeply personal reflection on something that’s been bothering me for a long time: the way some birders — especially those new to it — dismiss or even despise the very species that have managed to survive alongside us.
In this episode, I talk candidly about the growing trend of using birding apps to collect names rather than build relationships, the misplaced hatred for starlings, sparrows, pigeons, cowbirds, and geese, and the irony of calling animals “non-native” while ignoring the damage we humans have done to every habitat on the planet.
There’s no music bed, no fancy production — just me, talking plainly and truthfully.
You’ll hear why I believe these so-called “invasive” birds deserve not only respect but admiration. Why adaptability is a form of beauty. Why presence matters more than prestige. And why we should be listening — not just identifying.
This isn’t just about birds. It’s about how we look at the natural world — and ourselves.

As always, thank you for supporting this work. Your belief in honest storytelling and wild sound keeps me going. I’ll continue to speak up for what we so often take for granted — and try to remind us all what it means to really listen.
