 Why people who identify as Christians do things the way they do. Is it just a coincidence that worldwide when we see Christian people coming together they seem to do things in very similar ways. Is it chance, is it just tradition, or is there something more? One thing among many the bible promises to those who follow Him is that he God will reveal himself to those who seek Him. He will reveal himself through his word, through his Spirit, and through other people who belong to our community of faith. Revelation can in fact come through the community of faith, which means the wise council of spiritually mature people, within in your local Christian relationship group and beyond. The church, the local community of Christians, should express this by the giftings that individuals within that church family have and by what they do together. It should be a, praising community, a praying community, and a healing community. A place where people can come and experience healing and restoration.

 And that’s what we going to consider in Episode 20 of the Living In Faith Everyday Podcast.

Last time we discussed one of the greatest spiritual and relational problems most people face.  The problem of how to control what come out of our mouths. Maybe there are time when somebody has a problem, and you feel you have the answer. Shouldn’t you speak up then when we feel we have some wisdom to impart. The Bible teaches there are two types of wisdom. Firstly, there is worldly wisdom, and by nature it’s selfish, and its result can be to cause evil and chaos. Secondly, there is Godly wisdom, its nature is pure, gentle, and gracious and without hypocrisy.

The Introduction to this weeks podcast was recorded at Lytham Windmill on Lytham Green, Lancashire

If you are a recipient of God’s love it should be natural to be loving to others. Because we have received the favour of God, we should show favour to other people. Which means the words that come out of your mouth should bless others in the way in which you have already been blessed from the Lord.

Today podcast talks about that little thing in your mouth called the tongue. Do we think it would be helpful to have some instruction on how to use it.?  Well I believe, God does, and that is why he inspired the writer of the book of James to give us these instructions over 2000 years ago. If we can develop self-control of the tongue you will by nature also begin to develop self-control over your drives and motivations in general.

What is it that should determine whether or not you should speak out? The answer given here it seems is when we open our mouths, our motivation should always be to build people up and not tear them down. Is it going to build somebody up in Christ? I hope the application of this week’s podcast is that we will all be a little better at being in the business of building people up with every thought that is communicated by what comes out of our mouths.

The Introduction to this weeks episode was recorded at Calder Vale in rural Lancashire.

It seems the problem of prejudice is worldwide at the moment. Our inability to see people as individuals all of whom have intrinsic worth seems a real problem for a great many people. Most modern-day sociologists would say we are all prejudice to a greater or lesser degree. At the minute it seems all our thinking on these matters is up for re-evaluation at the moment, as we attempt as nations to try and confront prejudice and injustice in the world. But what do you think God has to say about prejudice?

The passage we had read for us this morning looks especially at that particular issue because it clearly demonstrates that there was prejudice surfacing in the very earliest of the Christian churches. However, having pointed this problem out, the text then gives us reasons why Christians believers, or anyone else for that matter should not fall into the trap of thinking this way. There are important reasons personally and societally when people think with prejudice attitudes. I believe there are catastrophic repercussions for society and nations when we go down the path of this false type of thinking about one another. Amazingly this passage seems to suggest there is a cure to a prejudiced attitude. What this passage offers us today is nothing less than an antidote to the cancer of a prejudiced mind.

The introduction to this weeks episode was recorded on the beach at St Annes Pier, St Annes on the Sea, Lancashire.

Salvation is in Christ alone, by faith alone. If the bible teaches us anything, it teaches it teaches us that.  The Apostle Paul taught salvation by faith, Peter taught it and Jesus taught it. The bible is very clear when it tells us our good works will not be the thing that saves us and gets us into heaven. At certain points, the bible want to make this so clear it doesn’t just say salvation is by faith, but it adds the caveat, “not by works”. If that the case, then why bother with doing any good deeds. 
There are many answers to that question in the Bible, but there is one passage above all the rest which address the whole issue of faith and works. A very well-known passage, but for many a very confusing passage, and because of that confusion it is also a controversial passage.  But it is that issue that we are going to look at this time in the Living In Faith Everyday Podcast
