Luna pulls into a motel off Route 50 in Nevada, somewhere between Ely and nothing. The night clerk is young, jumpy, and keeps glancing past her toward the vending machine. He tells her about the bellhop who works the third shift, a man named Cole who never seems to sleep, whose shadow moves faster than he does. Luna takes room 14, lies awake, and listens to the ping of the elevator at 2:47 AM, 2:52 AM, 3:01 AM, over and over, until she opens the door. A story about a job that never ends, a hallway that loops, and what happens when you meet a man who has been carrying luggage for a very long time.
