A South West lobby group has accused the federal government of handing Main Roads WA blank-cheque conditions to destroy a biodiversity hotspot.

The long-running battle between the South West lobby group, Main Roads and federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek over the southern section of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road reached a critical point last week in the Federal Court.

Dr Sue Chapman, Vice President of Friends of Gelorup told Ian Blackley, filling in for Jo McManus, that their argument is around the offset principles and that the recovery plan for the critically endangered Western Ringtail Possum has been ignored.

Perth learner drivers hoping to sit their practical test could be in for a long wait as a backlog forces them to fight for a cancellation spot – or book a test in two years’ time.

Drivers who are not exam-ready are being blamed for clogging up the system, along with a shortage of assessors across WA.

Steve Kolb, Driving Instructor at Drive Perth told Ian Blackley, filling in for Jo McManus that it's much cheaper and quicker to let your driving teaching assess you.

"We know whether you are going to pass or fail and then just don;t do a driving test because every time someone fails, it just adds to that queue," Mr Kolb said. 

Figures released to WAtoday revealed the metro area’s busiest centre Kelmscott, also had the highest pass rate for students at 44.6 per cent.

Elon Musk has suspended the accounts of several high-profile journalists who have covered the billionaire in press reports.

The accounts belonging to CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, The New York Times’ Ryan Mac, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell and other journalists who have covered Musk aggressively in recent weeks were all abruptly permanently suspended. The account of progressive independent journalist Aaron Rupar was also banned.

Social media strategist Meg Coffey told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus that Musk had no justification for his actions.

"It's absolutely wild what has happened this morning," she said.

The renowned Margaret River wine region features heavily in a new wine book that covers every aspect of Australia's best wine-growing regions. 

Wine journalist Angus Hughson has just released a book he co-authored, The Wine Journal, charting the greatest wineries, regions and vintages in Australia.

"Margaret River just has an amazing climate, essentially, it has oceans on three sides and that means it never gets too warm and that cooling influence gives a beautiful vibrancy and energy to the wines, particularly the chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon," he told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus.

"Some wine books are just a bunch of tasting notes, we want to give people a journey ... so that they feel more comfortable talking about wine at their next dinner party."

The Wine Journal also looks at other wine regions outside of Australia, as drinkers become more interested in the international varieties and styles.
