The first decade of the 2000s was truly a great one for film. We as a filmgoing society had just finished the fantastic boom of the nineties and were riding high before things started to dramatically shift in the 2010s. In this first part of a two part episode, brothers Josh and Jack dive into the decade to discuss our favorite aspects of film form the years 2000-2009. In part one we picked out a bunch of fun categories to rank like favorite action sequences, funniest moments, best villains and side characters and more. Jack had this week off but Rebecca once again joins the podcast. Who doesn't love Pixar? Over the years, Pixar has displayed a consistent level of excellence on nearly every level of filmmaking. The studio is known for being at the forefront of digital computer animation, and rightly so, but what truly makes their movies great is the level of character development and writing they display time and time again. In this episode, Brothers Josh and Jack rank funny Pixar moments, tear jerking Pixar moments, side characters and music. And of course we give our ranking for our favorite films released by this storied studio. We stan with Pixar.

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the biggest and most interesting movie stars in the world right now. Some might consider him the last great movie star as we move into a world with much better television and social media taking a much larger slice of the public attention pie. But Leo is still out here making premium movies for us to enjoy and dissect. In this episode we talk about his upcoming films, we go over his filmography, rank his performances, rank his co-stars and even talk about which of his characters we'd like to get a beer with. We have a lot of fun and we hope we get 50 more Leo movies throughout the rest of his career.

"Deserves got nothin' to do with it." The Western genre is one of the richest and long lasting texts in film history. There's almost too much to delve into in just one episode, so Jack and Josh will almost assuredly do a follow up episode down the line, but we wanted to tackle one of the most well loved and much debated genres to grace the film landscape. In this episode, we tackle the different eras, we rank different tropes, we talk about our favorite shootouts. And of course, we finish off with our favorite movies of the Western genre. Jack is out of town this week so Josh's wife, Rebecca joins the podcast and we talk about some of our favorite topics to talk about: Food, movies, and food IN movies. Sharing a meal can be a similarly communal experience like watching  film. They bring people together, they generate conversation, and the great experiences will create lasting memories. In this episode, we discuss various uses of food and/or cooking in movies that both center and do not center around food. We discuss our own personal favorite meals and, of course, finish off with our favorite food movies.

Hey everyone and welcome to The Longlist. This is our inaugural episode and our goal this first one is for you to get to know your hosts, brothers Josh and Jack, a little bit more. We give some take on the Oscars (at the time of recording) and have some more personally oriented top fives for you leading up to our rankings of the films in our respective birth years, 1985 and 1991.
