Have you ever been in a hurricane? No storm ever comes from the Caribbean from the West into the East, but such wasn’t the case for Aaron while in St Kitts and experienced a “wrong way” hurricane firsthand. This experience reminded him of how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected.

You know what you forget when you’re facing a natural disaster? The basics such as water and electricity use. All of us are going to have storms and challenges in our life, but some of the basic precautions that we’ve made may not be enough. They need to be sealed with greatness.

The challenge is that most of us take for granted that life is going to be easy, especially after reaching success. The reality is that unexpected DOES occur. We can get through it, no matter how bad it gets. Make preparations now so that you’re protected from the storms of tomorrow.

Whenever we go out to do a job, it’s vital to have the right gear and training to keep you going down the right path. We don’t want to be put into a position that could have been prevented through planning instead of doing things halfway. We need to make sure that we have the right tools and gear. It doesn’t have to be brand new, but the right stuff.

One of the most important things you can do is surround yourself with great people that make you better. For Aaron, it was the men and women who are very accomplished that he surrounded himself with that made him a better person through example. What would happen if we got together regularly to solve problems and come up with more ideas?

Hugh Stewart was just one of those people that gave Aaron a chance to get out of his comfort zone as he struggled with new skill sets. He learned that it’s more important to be certain than to be right. Sometimes we just need to take that first step, even if the conditions don’t appear to be ideal.

Aaron likened that to the story of Sam Barlow conquering the Oregon Trail in the 1840s. When facing the metaphorical mountains in life, sometimes it’s not about going around it, but over it. What is on the other side is worth every struggle before reaching the peak. Don’t be afraid to take steps towards your goals.

Aaron starts today’s podcast out by sharing an inspiring story of a young man fresh from graduate school that went to work for a technology company in the mid-90s. William Kelly got this idea to use the new world wide web as a means to help people learn more about one’s medical problems, and a popular health site was created.

By starting from a very humble surrounding in an old, dank basement to a sketchy offices to one of the largest successful businesses, a big chunk of online communities started as an idea and thrown together ideas by an ambitious thinker. With a simple desk and phone, there’s something about having a great idea and not waiting to have all of the best before launching. Once a plan has been designed, by seeking out other people that can see the vision as well after it has been articulated, baby steps will help you reach your goal.

The biggest difference between people that have been successful and others is by taking action. Take one step at a time, and you’ll get closer to your goal.
