Earlier this year the Republicans voted for a short term extension of the national debt ceiling in order to give time for Democrats to pass a reconciliation bill.  The Democrats have not included Republicans in talks on the proposed bill and next week the debt ceiling will be reached and the government will shut down if a reconciliation bill is not passed.
