For the next couple of weeks we will be discussing the translation of the KJV. Do not think of this as a critique of the translation or of the texts used to translate. Rather, this is an overview of the men involved in the translation, and their mindset through and after the process of translation. As you will see the KJV was a very well thought out, and incredibly scholarly work in its time. Lets get into it!

Have you ever wondered what the English Bible like before the KJV existed. It’s hard to imagine a world, or a church without this beloved translation, but we must remember there was nearly 2000 years of history without the KJV. Other translations existed. But what exactly did the Bible look like before the KJV. Today were going to tackle topic. Let’s get into it!

Tonight we will be discussing the Bible through several hundred years, but with limited information. This is the period referred to as the Dark Ages. And it was definitely dark. The Catholic Church rises to power and essentially puts a stranglehold on the rest of Christendom during this time. It was a time of war, of persecution, and a time when the church really began tot go off the rails. But even in the midst of this God preserved His Word, and there were some (unlikely) heroes of translation. Let’s get into it.

In this episode we discuss the four great uncial codices, as well as the Latin Vulgate. 

Tonight, we are going to discuss the history of the Bible during the first three centuries after Christ. So, this portion will cover from 1 AD- 299 AD, or CE, whichever suits you better.

So, this week we will be beginning a new series. I’m not even going to call this a teaching series. I honestly feel underqualified to be the guy to speak on this topic, but I see the need and urgency to discuss this issue. So instead of teaching, consider this more of a live diary. Each week I will research and come back to report to you guys my findings. I’ve just taken to calling it “The Bible Reports”

Basically, for the next several weeks we are going to do a somewhat deep dive into the history of the translation of the Bible. We’ll discuss the various Greek, Latin, and English iterations of the Bible, the life and tragic deaths of the translators, why so many different English translations, exist, and yes, we will discuss the ever-important question “Should we only use the King James Version Bible?” (Spoiler alert: right now, my answer is no…but that could change) So with nothing further…let’s go!
