Omar El Dokani has big plans for tutoring. And at the age of just 20, he has plenty of time to put them into action. Listen in to one of the most exciting young minds in tutoring today.

Omar left school in 2020 and after turning down a place at university, raised funds for his digital networking platform, Interjoin.

The initial stages saw huge growth and, having always planned to extend the Interjoin umbrella into more markets, him and his team launched Interjoin Teach: the one-on-one tutoring platform that matches a huge pool of tutors worldwide with students from the Middle East and Asia, and then into the UK and Europe.

Here, Ludo and Omar discuss what these plans mean for international tutoring in 2022 and what Omar has learnt about finding his way in business at such a young age.

Incentivising students is something all parents and educators have grappled with. Katie Tyndale has created a solution. Great Little Rewards works with schools to motivate children to model good behaviours, and now it's time tutors take part too.

Matt Green is The Rapping Science Teacher. An experienced teacher turned viral sensation (for children and parents), Matt has come to understand the way students learn.

With a background in Neuroscience, Matt taught in schools for over 10 years, becoming Head of Chemistry in multiple schools. Following this, he left the classroom and set up JGM Science Tutors: his (first) vehicle for helping students with their understanding and confidence.

His second vehicle was spawned not long after that: The Rapping Science Teacher. Regular short-form (TikTok) and longer form (Youtube) videos explaining simple and more complex concepts in Science, designed to stick in the minds of listeners and watchers thanks to the catchy tunes and lyrics that Matt labours over to create (essentially a full-time artist, tutor, CEO, husband and father).

"Unless you are ready to unlearn and learn again, you will never be able to go further" - it is this mantra that has allowed Misbah Iqbal to develop into the leader and educator that she is today. Now you get to try it too.

Misbah is the COO of London-based tutoring agency Eximus Education (led by the inimitable Haris Jawaid), who work in the UK, US, Canada and, predominantly, the Middle East connecting high-quality (and well trained) tutors with clients from all over. Misbah has led an approach which values client connection over bottom-line profit, creating affordable education solutions over turning families away at the door.

Isabel De La Cruz does something very few other tutors do: financial literacy for that age-group we call teenagers. It is at this age where the crucial intersection between (lack of) knowledge and responsibility for decisions is at its most strained.

On the one hand, teenagers have been given little to no more information than children about finance and banking. And yet, by this age, many have phones, some will have bank accounts and all of them should be aware of how jobs, taxes and so on work.

Isabel's background is in Maths, Science and computer programming, and she began tutoring way back in 2008. Since then, her practice has grown hugely, now encompassing her own tutoring business and a Youtube channel dedicated to teaching financial concepts in a simple, informative style.

If you want to learn how you can apply this knowledge to your children and students, this is the conversation for you. Framed by the understanding that financial literacy for kids is one of the growing forces in education, Isabel neatly ties in stories and tales from years gone by (agonising and amusing in equal measure) that taught her all she now knows about this area.

Liberty King is one to watch. Formerly involved in the design of the first year of the National Tutoring Programme, Liberty now promotes and supports social mobility causes in the UK through early careers programmes and strategy consulting.

Liberty's insights into designing the framework for an effective, evidenced-based approach to a tutoring programme across the UK demonstrate both the benefits and difficulties of the process. We are lucky here in this conversation to have been able to explore what the approach means for pedagogy and social mobility in this country, and beyond.

With tales from teachers gone by and lessons learnt from her days at the front of the classroom, Liberty paints a different vision for how we can frame social mobility, including where the real emphasis should lie.

A discussion founded in policy and design, but sculpted for the students and educators that that policy was built for.
