A children’s activity at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden has become part of Australia’s wider debate over gender, identity and the role of government-backed institutions.

Lyle Shelton opens the show by criticising the involvement of Shane Jenek, known as Courtney Act, as a Botanic Gardens of Sydney ambassador and a children’s story trail based on Jenek’s book. Lyle argues that parents, rather than government institutions, should guide children on contested questions of identity.

He also discusses government spending and the cost of living, a euthanasia case involving a young child in the Netherlands, and what he describes as a two-tier approach to free speech and hate-speech law in Australia.

The second half of the episode features Katie Faust’s address to the Family First 2026 Mobilise National Conference. She argues that public policy should be reframed around four rights of children: life, their mother and father, bodily safety and innocence. Her speech covers abortion, IVF, marriage, divorce, adoption, gender medicine, pornography and the broader question of whether same-sex marriage can ever be reversed.

Australia’s birth rate has fallen well below replacement level. What does that mean for the country over the next 40 years — and can anything reverse it?

Katie argues that the contraceptive pill, no-fault divorce, abortion, delayed motherhood and a career-first culture have contributed to falling fertility. She also explains why she believes women can still have family, career and rich relationships — but perhaps not in the order modern feminism often encourages.

The conversation also covers immigration, government debt, childcare, stay-at-home parenting, housing affordability and policies aimed at making it easier for young Australians to form families.

Can a school socially transition a child without telling their parents?

South Australian Family First MLC Sarah Game joins Lyle Shelton to discuss her push for a parliamentary inquiry into services provided to children and young people experiencing gender dysphoria.

Game explains why she wants Parliament to examine assessment and treatment pathways, parental rights, clinical safeguards and the evidence surrounding medical interventions for minors.

She and Lyle discuss concerns raised by families, an incident involving 22 young people whose care became the subject of an internal review, the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and school policies that Game says can leave parents unaware that their child is being socially transitioned.

Game also explains what needs to happen for her proposed inquiry to proceed through the South Australian Parliament.
