Before I tell you how I rebuilt my life, I need to tell you how I lost myself.
In this episode, I go back to the woman I was before everything changed: fiercely independent, career-driven, agnostic, and convinced that marriage and children were not part of the life I wanted. Then I share how a long-distance relationship filled with intensity, grand gestures, inconsistencies, and unmet promises slowly disconnected me from that version of myself.
I talk about anxious attachment, overgiving, isolation, declining health, and what happens when you keep working harder to earn back the love you received at the beginning. I also share how becoming a functional medicine patient, struggling to find genuine community at the hospital, and witnessing my own healing helped me see my life more clearly.
By my twenty-eighth birthday, I realized I did not need one small change. I needed to restructure everything: my relationship, my home, my career in medicine, and the future I thought I was building.
This is the story of how I stopped asking, “What more can I do to make this work?” and started asking, “What would my life look like if I stopped abandoning myself to preserve it?”
