Ikigai is a 1,000-year-old Japanese concept interpreted as "your reason for being" or purpose.
Finding purpose in life can feel intimidating, as if you had to look all over for one grand reason for being. But what if it's much simpler than that? According to guest Sam Ushio, ikigai starts with understanding your values.
Sam Ushio is the Chief Ikigai Officer at Connect3x, a people platform that embeds well-being into the rhythm of business. Sam fuses a powerful blend of Ikigai philosophy, strengths-based psychology, and change management to lead Connect3x's mission to "capitalize the Human experience."
In our conversation, Sam shares his journey into entrepreneurship after he realized he was compromising personal growth for financial growth.
He explains the Japanese concept of Ikigai and how it's different than the Western version you'll find with a Google search. Sam then describes how he approaches Ikigai and how you can get started exploring purpose for yourself.

There's a resilience concept that has so greatly helped me in my life that I want to share it with you. It's the concept of acceptance.
Listen in as I (host, Jen Arnold), walk you through what acceptance is, how it's helped me, and how it can also help you. Plus, I'll share three questions you can ask yourself to determine if you are struggling with acceptance.
In 2020, Brett Blair's life was tragically upended when his wife, Kim, was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Brett turned into a 100% caregiver as Kim's disease progressed at a rate neither of them anticipated. When she passed in 2021, Brett spent time grieving and doing the things he knew were good for him to process the death of his loving spouse.
In this episode, Brett shares his story of caregiving for Kim once she was diagnosed with ALS. He walks us through the day Kim was diagnosed and how they dealt with the prognosis.
Brett explains the different stages of Kim's disease and the ways he took care of himself as her caregiver. He reflects on what he learned during that trying period of life and how anyone facing an awful diagnosis can face it by living fully.
Today's episode is about the power of having a personal mission statement. A personal mission is a guiding statement that directs your energy and choices. It encapsulates what is important to you in all facets of your life.
Listen in as host Jen Arnold, walks through how it's helped her in her life, the research behind it, and a free challenge she's hosting for you to create yours.
When someone wrongs, hurts, or violates us, we get angry. If we hold on to that anger and resentment it can fester, leading to increased stress, negative emotions, poorer mental health, a weakened immune system, and higher blood pressure.
But how can you get past the anger so you can get on with your life? According to podcast guest, Dr. Robert Enright, the answer is forgiveness.
Dr. Enright is a licensed psychologist, and founder of the International Forgiveness Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to disseminating knowledge about forgiveness and community renewal through forgiveness. Through his decades of research, he's found that forgiveness is a literal cure for trauma to the heart.
