America hates everything that doesn't make a ton of money, music maybe most of all. Who cares if 'Merka hates underground music, maybe deep down they realize what an utter crock of shit corporate music really is? Worse and less satisfying than a McDonald's burger, flatter too.
We do what we do during every episode, we kick it without regard for genre, location, race or class. Starting with some female led hip hop, moving on to some more African music from '23, into the metal chaos, out into a mash of Mexican music and American banjo playing, hit the dancefloor and out on a world music stylistic mash.
Who could ask for more? Please keep in mind you won't like this unless you let go of the idea that the quality of a piece of music is tied in any way to money.

H31R: Backwards
Chouk Bwa & The Angstromers: Vini We M
Fabricant: Demigod Prototype

We continue with the celebration of all the great music that came out in 2023. Billy Woods continued with his sizzling string of hot records, the Kara Jackson record is beautiful, Homeboy Sandman is completely underrated and The Coral, so far into their career, released a great The Coral record.
I'm a finicky fckr so for me to go on and on about how much great music came out in 2023 is a sign of how much great music came out in 2023!
Check it out, spread it around. #culture #newmusic

Part 3 of The Magic Organ's end of year roundup is here and now. Be careful and don't shit your pants in complete and total amazement.
Summer 2023 was an avalanche of incredible African music but other genres, most notably electronic music, were bumping along as well. And don't sleep on the Liturgy album, it's a banger.
I say unto ye focus on quality and not on genre and that will produce much happiness for you in 2024.

LCY: Believe
Liturgy: Djennaration
Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy: Doose Mam

The episode title says it all, the Year End Roundup comes after this episode but do not sleep on this episode as a couple of the tracks here are from records that will make the year end list, the James Holden recording and the Justin Walter ambient solo synth record.
In addition we got a little slinky hip hop, some cumbia (that record could make the list too!), a tasty track from PJ Harvey -- oy, I believe I got the song title and the record title confused during my overdub action, and finally Open Mike Eagle who we try to spin frequently.
We (me) love to celebrate not the monolithic artists like Taylor Swift and the Beyonce and the Drake -- it's a bit of a tough sell to define them as artists these days, but the indie and everyday artists putting out inspirational tracks.
Behold the Magic Organ as it sprays its bounty of fat tracks all over the peasants of this world.
Excerpts from this episode:
James Holden: Contains Multitudes
Otis Mensah and the intern: bruiser bb
Nemegata: Cumbia en Marte
Justin Walter: New Pads
PJ Harvey: All Souls
Open Mike Eagle: mad enough to aim a pyramid at you

Inspired by ongoing events in the world The Magic Organ is opposed to all warring and violence. We approve only of dropping the bomb on one's own self and moving towards being a better person with better values and less violence inside you. Of course, by this we mean killing as there are many among us who could use a good dirtnap/adjustment.
We kick it off with a track from the new Dengue Fever record, move onto a track off an amazing reissue of East African Music on the Coloimbian Coast, into some pumped to the max UK-Carib dancefloor banging, into more UK betwixt genres but a lot of improv, into some mind washing ambient music and finishing out with another positive dancefloor number.
Tell your stupid friends about this episode. Hey I heard this new music podcast, homie knows his shit, check it out.
Excerpts from this episode:
Dengue Fever: Macho Purple Hotspot
Orchestre Shika-Shika: Diabanza
EVM128: UK Brukers
Alabaster Deplume: To That Voice and Say
Lia Kohl: The Moment a Zipper
Logic1000: Grown On Me

First off the mistakes. I say in this episode that the Nihiloxica tune is off a remix album and it's not, it's off their new record called Source of Denial which just came out on Crammed Discs and you should check that record out. That's how it works with the mistakes, those folks who get victimized get some added mentions in the show notes.
The Hella record is called Hold Your Horse Is and that just mentally hosed the voice changer which didn't understand the joke/pun so if you get that far that's the reason for that mangle. If that's any indication of the humorlessness of the incoming AI then we are f*cked. #sadface
Otherwise we got a whiter, more Anglo episode, it's not purposeful, what you get is the best of what I hear and I listen to a lot, a whole lot. The new Coral record is banging, they have a way with the arranging that is special, we go into the Roisin Murphy record which sports tasty sounds, head out to Eastern Europe ambient jam action, some reissue math rock/punk straight into the ramped up Cali singalong punk, starting to push across the finish line with the hand drumming electronic outfit from Togo/Benin Nihiloxica and finishing up with some retro folk action from P.G. Six.
Enjoy all the sounds and the genres and you know appreciate musicians, you can't do what these folks do.
Excerpts from this episode:
The Coral: Wild Bird
Roisin Murphy: Hurtz So Bad
Andra Ljos: Gemerzek Settlements
Hella: Been a Long Time Cousin
Jeff Rosenstock: Head
Nihiloxica: Source of Denial
P.G. Six: Leaves

Released Monday September 4, 2023 -- Labor Day!!! So let's honor the labor of musicians who in our current music business regime often labor for fractions of pennies. Oh no politics!
I freeball all my commentary and alas I make mistakes. I mistakenly say in this episode that the second group Teke::Teke is from Japan because they have a female singer with a Japanese accent. This outfit is from Canada and their new record sounds like Captain Beefheart's car smashed into a bus with some Japanese flavors in it. I say on the spot that it's a Shonen Knife-Captain Beefheart car crash but it's more art school rock than punk rock. So be it.
We kicked it off with some hot dancehall, segue into some retro art school rock from Teke::Teke, pack the summer of '23 with more awesome African music, cough up a little bit of indie flavor for the white folks out there, sample some nihilistic stoned out hip hop from the non-normie artist name ICYTWAT, and wrap it up with some metal from Horrendous'new album, Ontological Mysterium. Yowsa what a mouthful.
All good stuff, always multi-genre.
Excerpts from this episode:
Vybz Kartel: Weed Smoker
Teke::Teke: Gotuko Lemon
Aheema Nwomkro: Yebre Ma Owuo
dream TX: in too deep
ICYTWAT: They don't hear me
Horrendous: Neon Leviathan

Or you can get bent, I'm fine with that as well.
Oh man, late summer 2023!!! Hot enough for you? The sheer volume of insanely great music out of Africa has been the listening highlight of this summer for me, but let's be honest most folks are not that sophisticated or adventurous enough to listen outside of the various lanes and channels created for them by the music industry. I urge you not to stay in your lane, it's boring, and you create a boring life.
Still, we get a little North Africa in the hizzy with the Charif Megarbane track Tarator in the third position I say don't sleep on Homeboy Sandman's new album Rich, he's a clever MC, funny and smart. Otherwise the episode kicks off with a track out of Berlin, an interesting mash of electronic and other sounds, a little Caribbean dancefloor bangin', old school punk it goes on an on and cuz that's how the Magic Organ rolls.
As for the title I recently read a blog post where the writer described large music stars in America as cult leaders, actively cultivating their fans (no pun!), and it ends up more about some weird relationship and status thing, and oy The Magic Organ is vehemently opposed to that. That's why the Magic Organ hates both Drake and Tay Tay, it's a cult!!! Music is music, it's something humans have done for centuries, once and still with drums, but also with whatever tools they have humans have they will make music. And it doesn't have to be some weird cult.
Enjoy the music (not the cult!)
Excerpts from this episode:
Ziur: Malikan
Homeboy Sandman: Biology
Charif Megarbane: Tarator
BAMBII: Wicked Gyal
Snooper: Bed Bugs
Nicolas Bougaieff: Recursive 4
of Tropique: Great Booga Looga
Hey I usually put a bunch of spiel down here but let's not do that. If you want to reach the Magic Organ email [email protected].
