Rick de Yampert is a Florida resident and long-time journalist who spent twenty-three years as the arts and entertainment writer for the Daytona Beach News-Journal. He presents workshops and performs on sitar and Native American flutes at Pagan festivals in the Southeast, and in Unitarian Universalist churches. Rick has studied Hindu sacred sound, shamanic drumming, Goddess worship, Taoism, and more. His crow art has been displayed at galleries and art festivals around Florida. In the season 7 finale, Leandra and Elyse are joined by Fio Gede Parma to discuss their book 'The Witch Belongs to the World', and its major themes: what does it really mean to be a witch?
We talk about what initiation really is, the pros and cons of following a particular lineage, and the ins and outs of Fio's tradition, the Wildwood Tradition from so-called Australia.
Fio Gede Parma (they/she) is a Balinese-Australian international teacher, magical mentor, and award-winning author. They were born in the island of Bali - to Roslyn and John - and descend from Balinese, Chinese, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and English peoples. Fio has lived in so-called Australia for most of her life, as north as Thul Garrie Waja/Gurrumbilbarra (Townsville) and as south as Naarm (Melbourne).
Fio was raised in an animistic, polytheistic, magic-affirming, spirit-knowing family - in a haunted house - whose traditions were largely impacted by what the west calls Balinese Hinduism. When forced to consider it, some Balinese name their ‘religion’ Agama Tirta, Religion of the Holy Water. Ganesha, Siwa (Shiva), Krishna, Parwati Uma, Durga, Hanuman, the Barong and Rangda, the spirits and the ancestors were all spoken of, venerated, and regarded with holy awe. In this episode of the Magick Kitchen, Elyse and Leandra sit down with Morpheus Ravenna, historian and author of "Magic of the Otherworld". We discuss the complications and misconceptions of 'Celtic' spirituality and cultures, and look at the practices we do have record of and what we don't and how one might actually practice Celtic witchcraft, folk magic, or other types of spiritual paths.
Morpheus Ravenna is a genderfluid sorcerer, artist, and writer, residing in the East Bay area of California. Sí is a dedicant of the Morrígan, with a practice rooted in animism, folk magic, and Celtic polytheism. An initiate of the Anderson Feri tradition of witchcraft, sí has practiced devotional polytheism and the magical arts for over twenty-five years. Sí is the author of The Book of the Great Queen, and a priest and co-founder of the Coru Cathubodua Priesthood.
