Kate Reed works with leaders across West Virginia in her role as Communications & Development Manager at Leadership West Virginia.

Kate also works as Co-Founder & President of Wonder & Grow, a non-profit she co-created in 2018. Its mission is to ignite a sense of wonder and grow understanding and connection with the natural world through curiosity driven exploration and mindfulness practices. 

Kate earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master’s Degree at George Washington University.

She is a certified teacher, experienced in yoga, along with various modes of meditation and mindfulness.

Kate spends her free time exploring in nature with her family in the  Monongahela National Forest among the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia.

Welcome to The Main Thing Podcast. I’m your host Skip Lineberg, and I’m thrilled to bring you this very special episode.

Along with millions of business professionals around the world, I discovered Tom Peters in the early 1980s with his break-out, best-selling book In Search of Excellence. I was captivated by Tom’s fresh way of looking at companies, cultures and customers. Tom and his co-author Bob Waterman introduced a new lexicon of phrases that colored business thinking … and leadership. Tom’s book influenced my choice of college major and my career path.

In 2004, I met Tom Peters at his Re-Imagine Summit where I had the great blessing of spending 48 hours with Tom and his passionate ideas for reforming American business. Tom’s ice breaker question at the town hall. Helped me to discover my purpose.

Today, almost 20 years later, you’ll not only hear how I answered Tom’s own soul-piercing question, you will also hear about his terrific new book Tom Peters’ Compact Guide to Excellence.

Tom was born and raised in Maryland. He studied Civil Engineering at Cornell University and served in the US Navy. After his military service, Tom moved to California and earned his MBA and PhD from Stanford University. He began his distinguished career in business consulting with the firm McKinsey and Associates. In 1981, Tom founded The Skunkworks Inc., The Palo Alto Consulting Center, and The Tom Peters Company. Tom has written more than 20 books over the course of his career.

After residing many years in Vermont, Tom and wife Susan Sargent now live near Buzzard’s Bay in South Dartmouth, MA.

For more than 30 years Michael Card has endeavored to engage with the text of Scripture, whether through the writing of music and books or in the context of the conference or the classroom. In the course of 30 albums, 22 books and numerous concerts, Michael has invited listeners and readers to honestly wrestle with the Bible, seeking to grasp the meaning of the text with all the heart and mind. 

A graduate of Western Kentucky Univ., Michael received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biblical Studies. Michael travels frequently each year, teaching and sharing his music at Biblical Imagination Conferences. He also facilitates annual Life of Christ tours in Israel.

He and his wife, Susan, have four children and four grandchildren. Michael lives in Franklin, Tennessee, where along with a group of close friends, he pursues racial reconciliation and neighborhood renewal.

Upon receiving his graduate degree, Max spent the early years of his career working as an analyst on Wall Street, helping advise large-scale businesses on mergers and acquisitions. In 2016, Max decided to return to West Virginia with his newly-acquired skillset in hopes of helping revitalize the place he’s always called home. In the ensuing six years, Max has played a role in several business acquisitions himself, and continues to guide aspiring entrepreneurs with similar ambitions. Max co-founded the wealth management firm Blackbear Capital, working with individuals and institutions throughout West Virginia. Max resides in Charleston, West Virginia, with his wife Kylie and young son, Dexter.
