MaltTravAle Episode 9 – York – City of Romans, Vikings and pints. This week we take a gentle ramble around the West of York (we will be returning in a future episode to do east of the river) visiting a  smorgasbord of Jorvik’s finest hostelries (got to get a bit of Viking in). We also discuss the paucity of breweries in York, wax lyrical about Yorkshire Pudding Ale and Cream Egg beers and delve into the myth that there are enough pubs in York to visit a different one every day of the year! 

A slight change of tack this week we talk a little bit of brewery and beer history and delve into Nick’s extensive collection of Brewerymania. We remember and discuss some of the classic beer branding of our youth – so lots of cheesy beery strap lines, some iconic images of red triangles and huntsmen and quite a lot of thankfully, forgotten, mass produced lagers mentioned. Episode 7 – Leeds City of Beer

In this weeks podcast we try the impossible and pick out 20 or so great pubs and bars from the 560+ that now serve this fine city – we talk Tetleys, heritage pubs, rough pubs, brewery taps  and lots of great beer as well as the now compulsory pub toilet tale! We also talk in rapture about another must visit pub Whitelocks

MaltTravAle Podcast Episode 6 this week focuses on the legendary Trans Pennine Real Ale Trail, our chosen version starts with a Cheeky pint in the Arndale, Manchester and hits the buffers at the Scarbrough Taps in Leeds with a few stops in between!

We talk Mild, Heavy Woollen, Sarah Lancashire and ramble on about some stupendous Yorkshire and Lancashire watering holes, two pubs with the longest and shortest names (possibly) and wax lyrical about the Stalybridge Original Buffet Bar - to steal a quote 'simply a magnificent place to sit and drink beer'.

Episode 5 - this week the best pubs in Hull and the East Riding we are tackling Selby, Bridlington, Driffield, Beverley and the great port of Kingston upon Hull, there be mentions of @CAMRA_Official and their 50th birthday, @OldMillBrewery, @samsmithsbeer & scraps butties ,white telephone boxes, scraps Hockney landscapes and the legend that is Nellies (aka The White Horse Beverley)

Episode 4 - focus this week is ‘Past Pilgrimages’ – we have decided there are so many pubs and towns to talk about we will split our best beer pilgrimages over the next 3 Episodes - so this week we take the roads and rails to the Dales - ‘Heading West from York’

We virtually visit Tadcaster, Ilkley, Otley, Thirsk, Ripon, Masham, Keighley, Haworth, Shipley and Saltaire and Skipton. Recommending great pubs, reminiscing on pre-lock down trips with the usual blend of Yorkshire wit and wisdom.

In this episode we also chat about ‘Spoons’ should they be included in beery pilgrimages, catch up on some Beer news and start a bit of thread about Craft v Cask

Episode 3 - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Good Beer Guide - how to plan the perfect beer trip we also have Beery Highlights of the week and Beer News including a chat about the demise of good ale in Burton Upon Trent - once brewing capital of the World
