When redesigning your old jewellery or having anything sentimental made for that matter, don’t work with the cheapest or most convenient person you can find - do the research and have conversations to find someone you trust and feel aligned too. Josie’s advice to be honest with yourself and don’t put pressure on yourself is so relevant for the fast times we are living in. It’s drilled into us that we’re supposed to do all of these things to be successful. It’s amazing when you find something you’re passionate about but don't feel you have to do it all. This is something I have learned first-hand over the last 12 months especially - please make sure you take time to enjoy life.

They speak about discipline, gratitude and learning to have an impact and leave a powerful legacy to those who may wish to follow in your footsteps. Willa is such a gentle woman with a humble attitude, and is one to watch.

In Episode 5 Roseanna speaks with the funny and creative Jo MacFarlane, founder of self-named luxury candle company and author of Ask and Act, a wonderful read! Jo is based in Scotland and has travelled the world following her dreams, she’s now helping other women create a kitchen table start up candle business, part of the legacy she wishes to leave. Episode 6 is with the founders of Queens of Mayfair, Victoria and Grace Sheppard. These two women are amazing and talk about how the stars aligned for them and lead the way to building Queens of Mayfair, an artisan coffee shop and champagne bar in the heart of Mayfair, they have values that include community and sustainability.

Episode 7 is with the delightful Fay Cannings, founder of Seekd. Seekd is a marketplace for jewellery and accessories that has a huge focus on giving back to people and the planet. What Fay has built in a very short amount of time is amazing, especially considering the other projects she has been working on as well. What amazes me is that everything Fay does is all aligned with her value of sustainability.

And finally Roseanna speaks with British Olympian and Britain's most successful female kayaker, Anna Hemmings MBE about resilience. Anna faced a chronic illness when she was competing and was told she wouldn’t be able to compete anymore but she didn’t let that stop her, still going on to win medals. But this was the foundation for the coaching work she prides herself on now about how to be a resilient leader.

Anna Hemmings is Britain's most successful female kayaker and has had quite a journey. She's translating the lessons she's learned in her sports journey, including her diagnosis with chronic fatigue syndrome - and overcoming it, into the business world, and now coaches people to break down barriers and to maximize their potential.

In this episode she shares her story about overcoming chronic fatigue syndrome and the work it took.

Anna is a leadership and high performance coach and she set up a high-performance training consultancy called Beyond the Barriers.  She is also a motivational speaker where she shares the lessons that she learned on topics such as high-performance resilience, leadership high-performing teams.

Her parting advice is to think about the story your relatives will tell when you’re in your 80s.  Place yourself in the future and look back, thinking about what it is you want people to say, what do you want them to remember most? What were they most proud of?  And shape your life that way.  Think about your purpose and direction and what you need to get you there.

Fay Cannings is; a good friend, a good partner, a good family member and a  leader in community impact and social values.  She is the founder of Seekd, an online marketplace for eco-friendly jewellery and accessories.

She lives by her values.  In this episode, she shares how she's done that.

Throughout her career Fay has always worked in community impact or social impact and together with her the influence of jewellery through the family business of trading jewellery, it was almost inevitable that something like Seekd would eventually be created.

Legacy has been an evolution and it takes time and effort to figure it out and Fay is still working on hers but ultimately for her, it’s been about creating an impact on peoples lives and offering community and connectivity.

Victoria and Grace Sheppard are sisters and business partners and the inspiring founders of Queens of Mayfair; an artisan coffee shop with deep values connected to supporting responsible consumption and a welcoming community. In this episode, we speak of the importance of ethical values and how family help you define your legacy.

Working in the area and having roots there, the sisters felt something was missing in their Mayfair community in terms of coffeeshop options and was Grace who one day found herself in front of the family office building when the inspiration hit that there could be a coffee shop in that space and combined with their understanding the area and what people wanted, and their knowledge in branding and sourcing high products, they felt confident that they could tackle the project together. It was a space that offered a local place to meet while offering the highest grade products while supporting responsible consumption and high standards of ethical practice.  Legacy influenced the decision they made in opening Queens of Mayfair and started with the absolutely certain that their grandmother, who had recently passed, would have encouraged them to do it.  The tea they serve is the tea their grandmother gave them growing up and has ties to the town she grew up in, in Ireland. They also use products sourced from Dorset which is where they’re from.  They are mindful of the legacy of their grandparents and this influences them on a daily basis.  Legacy for them on a personal note is having a beautiful family and being able to provide for them, and offer inspiration.  But in terms of the legacy they want to leave with the business, there is still a lot they want to achieve with the brand, and will continue to grow organically and authentically.  But one element of that, is being part of the conversation that says, yes of course women can do that, of course women can achieve their goals.  Women succeeding in business is the norm, not the exception. For Grace, jewellery is sentimental and she generally won’t take anything off unless it falls off. She loved wearing her mum's engagement ring and only stopped when a stone got loose and she wears rings that belonged to her grandma.  Victoria loves her watches but two special pieces are an old-style diamond ring her mum gave her for her 21st birthday which in turn had been gifted to her by Victoria’s father to celebrate Victoria’s birth.  She’s considering having it remodelled into several pieces.  Another special piece is a necklace that her grandmother wore every day which has a diamond in her grandma’s star sign.  And while she doesn't wear it, she holds it often and it feels like a good luck charm.   Then there’s the necklace that Grace and their mum gave her for her 30th birthday which is special for the sentimental value but also because it’s a beautiful pearl Van Cleef shamrock and it reminds her of her grandmother. Grace has had a turquoise ring commissioned 10 - 15 years ago because she was on the hunt and couldn’t find one as she was very particular about what she wanted.  She also hopes to be involved in the design of her engagement ring.   Their parting advice to living a meaningful life - you only have one life so you need to have true passion, follow a vision and take that leap of faith and have the courage to break free from your comfort zone. Do things that have authenticity to who you are as a person.

Jo MacFarlane is a creative, a teacher and Luxury Candle Business owner and author of Ask and Act, a book that shares her journey and talks about spirituality mixed with business.

In this episode, we learn about the importance of being open to change and opportunities.

Jo is a serial creator which led her to her candle business which was originally created from her kitchen table and has grown into a thriving business where she now creates candles for luxury hotels around Scotland and the UK, she runs in-person workshops (pre covid) and also runs online workshops.

She pivoted during the lockdown and now has her course ‘Run Your Business From The Kitchen Table’ online as well as two of her candle making workshops, and of course she’s still making her candles.

Her book is business-focused but has a whimsical angle as she tells stories from her time as an air hostess.  It is a guide to building a first-class business and touches on spirituality in terms of manifestation and visualising your dream life.

The candle business happened quite by chance after making candles for Christmas presents one year.  She then started selling to friends and local people. Then came the call from a local hotel, The Fairmont asking for a few hundred candles.    The next step came with the subscription box Birchbox, where she thought her candles would make a wonderful addition to their box.  Jo emailed them and they said they’d love to work with her and asked for a quote for 10,000 candles and this is when she had to scale the business.  The business has grown organically at the customer's desires. Pivoting and being open to change and opportunities have meant that Jo has continued her business even with her studio being closed for in-person workshops for a year.  Moving to the online platform has now meant that she has worked with people from all across the world and has been able to widen her impact.

Legacy was the push Jo needed to publish her book, to help other people.  She wanted people to learn from her journey and perhaps avoid some of the mistakes.  Legacy is also the impact she’s had on the hundreds of people all around the world, who have come through her workshops (online or in-person).  Legacy to Jo is giving people an opportunity.  Legacy is being part of a catalyst.

Her mum and grandmother's wedding rings are a couple of the pieces Jo has and treasures, as well as a crystal ring she bought herself.  There’s also the romantic 3 heart-shaped diamonds her husband got her, which have been turned into a bracelet. Jo also still has some pieces she received for her 18th birthday but that she doesn’t wear but they hold memories.  She’s now thinking of having them remodelled.

Her parting advice on creating a meaningful life - everyone should run a marathon. Because in that journey we discover so much.  We are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for.

Willa Newton, a British eventing rider with audacious goals.  Today we speak about Willa’s career and the things that have helped her to bounce back from injury when most people would have given up. She’s a young woman who has passion and who puts in the work.
