The Mandcave with Mandy Kaplan & Mandy Fabian episodes

  • Friends, Lovers, and the Big Mandible Thing

The Mandy’s aren’t joined by Matthew Perry to discuss his memoir, but they do talk about him a bunch, making this the Friend they have officially talked about the most.

The book is Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir and you’ll have to listen in to see where they start to fight over it. They also talk about Mandy’s unironic love of earworms, and Mandy’s journey not too far through The Rehearsal on NetflixDon't forget!

  • The Mandow

The Mandys have done some reading and watching again this week, and as they wrap up season three, they imagine an alternate history in which they are members of a Hollywood sex cult as they review The Vow on HBOMax.

Mandy knows how to read and shows it off by recommending The Hormone Secret. While all that smarty stuff was happening, Mandy watched Weird: The Al Jankovich Story on Roku... so apparently, they have Roku. Mandy upped that particular ante by dropping Lost In Space on Netflix, and the Netflix part is really important. She doesn't say so, which might have you searching out the terrible William Hurt remake with Joey at the wheel. Watch this new series instead. Mandy watched Enola Holmes on Netflix in preparation for the second, which, as it turns out, is pretty fun.

  • Somemandy Somewhere

The Mandys watch Somebody Somewhere on HBO and revel in the small town de-pantsed charm of it all.

Do the Mandys agree? Hard to say. I, your faithful show notes editor, have now listened to the show and I find they agree in different directions. Which you may think equates to disagreement. On that point, we agree in different directions.

  • Don't Worry Mandling

The Mandys join Olivia Wilde in a journey through her own weird "Stepford" with Don't Worry Darling. Along the way... and we can't stress this enough... SO MUCH DRAMA.

Unfortunately, it’s less about the drama on screen and more about the drama behind the scenes. This is sadly one of those movies that is getting lost in the wake of its own cast shenanigans. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. But it means it’s harder to give the movie a completely fair shake with all that media distraction. So, does it deserve critique? Let’s find out!

  • Inside the Mand of a Cat

First things first: Mandy hasn’t let go of the Peterson thing from last week. We put a chapter stop there so you can skip it, but who are we kidding? You’re all murder-hooligans so let’s just call it what it is: You’re going to listen to this over, and over, and over again.

Bonus: The Mandys are going to watch this murder documentary about the whole thing for Fandys so if you’re not one yet, head over to The Mandcave and sign up to get your personal, member’s only podcast feed to hear this bonus stuff.

Now, onto the main show. The Mandys head Inside the Mind of a Cat. The big lesson: Mandy has never kicked a cat. Mandy possibly wants to.

    Classic. Reliable. Dignified. Carefree. #MeowToo

  • Mands

Mandy is ordained ... LOCK UP YOUR WEDDINGS. The Mandys take on Bros and after that other thing they watched, it's a welcome reprieve. Seriously, this Billy Eichner joint levels up the rom com and together with Luke Macfarlane, the cast demonstrates on-screen chemistry we’ve needed in theaters for a long time —eye-opening, kick-down-the-door chemistry — and we’re here for it.

    • (00:00) - Welcome to The Mandcave!
  • (00:32) - Mandy is Ordained... and dangerous
  • (01:27) - Mandy watched a show in 10 minute segments like a savage

  • NOTMANDAY

The Mandys celebrate a BIG WEEK™. Why? Well, that’s because Mandy celebrated the completion of her new film, Jess Plus None by actually allowing Mandy to see it. On the big screen, even! But they’re not here to talk about that, yet.

Today, they dig into a film that dedicates itself to taking down performative activism. It’s “NOT OKAY,” which is decidedly not a documentary about the Mandcave, we promise. No, it’s a story about a young woman in way, way over her head and sucked into the allure of social media and... wait... maybe it is a documentary about the Mandcave?

  • The Mandys All Scream

Something a bit different this week as the Mandys follow Patton Oswalt from his film, I Love My Dad, to his stand-up: We All Scream. It’s Oswalt’s return to living tour after the pandemic so the Mandy’s do their own retrospective on what was lost and what was gained through lockdown.

There’s a game in here in which Mandy attempts to fill in the punchlines to famous dad jokes. Y’all, it’s not pretty. You’ll be screaming at your phone. It’s ok, though, because Mandy is a really great filmmaker. Everybody has their thing.

Oh, and Mandy recommends you check out the Bengson’s “Keep Going Song.”

  • Good Luck To You, Leo Mande

The Mandys explore an alternate future in the sexcapades of Emma Thompson with "Good Luck to You, Leo Grande." Along the way, Mandy saw a sportsball game and enjoyed the experience. Mandy brings follow-up on the much anticipated personality test results from last week, Mandy brings the show’s first “Potty-Time Movie Review” segment, and in the game, we introduce you to the erotic adventures of Daisy Flowers her constant consort, Leopard Bluejeans, the Winnie the Pooh of sex worker assistants.
