The Mandys investigate the dark underbelly of Instagram momfluencers and the rise and fall of stinky, moldy, unicorn leggings in the podcast, ‘The Rise and Fall of LuLaRoe.’
Should you listen to the podcast, “The Shrink Next Door,” before you sit down with the tv+ show of the same name? It’s probably OK that you don’t, but the comparison is interesting.
Oh, wait, you’re not here for a dissertation on adaptations across media. You’re here to find out if the Mandys agree on it. Well, the editors have told us we have to stop giving away those kinds of teasers in the episode notes, so you’re not going to hear it from me. I’m not even going to tell you that they’ve committed to watching more episodes than the eps they watched for this podcast. Why would I tell you that?? That’s tantamount to giving away the secret altogether! Only a real rube would pull that… or… someone with an ax to grind, I guess.
Mmmhmmm... The Mandys are back to take on a romcom this week. You might think this would be a pitch right across the ol' plate. If you thought that, you'd be a real rube. Because that would mean that you had been lulled into that sweet, soft sense of complacency that comes with the acceptance of the brand of this show being a lie, a fraud, a hornswoggle, that these supposed best friends actually have one more thing in common in addition to their names: THEY AGREE ON EVERYTHING.
Not so fast, Ace. This one... Is... Divisive.
First, make sure you get those tix to MISCAST LA for the March 13 extravaganza. But only do it if you're in striking distance of The Federal NoHo because buying tickets for the show in LA if you're in Montana is bonkers. Don't do that.
It's a test of wit and will as the Mandys climb aboard the Will Arnett improve train that is, "Murderville." It’s more than just an improv show… It’s an improv show that is also a test of wits for the guest. This week, the Mandys yes, and… their way through several episodes with praise for the guests, the writers, and naturally for Will Arnett in the central role.
Our opening course this week is a quick review of Something Rotten currently playing at 5-Star Theatricals. It’s a bawdy tale of the Bard which, by the time you hear this, you won’t be able to see most likely as the Los Angeles run is over on February 13, 2022. But we want to leave you with this note: the show is decidedly not dumb, and if you have a chance to see anything else headlining Justin Michael Wilcox, you take that chance because he’s a phenom.
Our main course is the Netflix puzzler, “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window,” the Kristen Bell puzzler that definitely keeps you guessing, and might actually have you laughing, too.
The Mandys are, as it turns out, all right, all right, all right, as they join Matthew McConaughey in the Cadilac and hit all the green lights. On their way, they hit up Puppetmaster: The Ultimate Con Man, check in on Mandy’s “integrity cleanse”, and give us a game that is funnier than it deserves to be, and will have you quoting Mandy all week.
It’s Scream time. The Mandys hook up with Ghostface in this requel of the classic Wes Craven Scream and the gang’s all here: Syd, Gail, Dewey, Dennis Quaid’s kid, the girl from In The Heights, "good actress", the guy who looks like miniature Chris Hemsworth, Football Trope, Emo movie nerd, MagGuffin, and Sheriff Judy.
Mandy doesn't love horror movies, but don't worry, Mandy makes her go. Right after they catch up on The Morning Show season 2... oh, and before they play the PHOBIA GAME! Sometimes you have to wonder... do they know they're putting all this good stuff on the Internet? Should someone remind them?
Nah, better not.
The Mandys head to the beach with Maggie and Olivia and do some lip-biting with Dakota in “The Lost Daughter”.
First, a brief aside on West Side Story, a film the Mandys watched and a commentary you’ll never hear in full because, even after several dozen episodes recorded, sometimes professional performers bungle buttons and things don’t get captured. So, poof.
Our main event is Squid Game, a show we never would have expected the Mandys to watch. But, what did they think about it? You’ll have to listen to learn!
