The Maple Footy Podcast

Some good Canadian news, especially in the MLS! We discuss some of our boys in the middle of their playoff runs, a word on Dayne St. Clair and of course a good chunk of time devoted to the Whitecaps! Let's chat...

Man oh man, in another post-season twist for the first time in SEVEN seasons, Forge will not be playing in the final game of the season. Something that you would think is rather shocking, having gone undefeated for much of the season. But it will be Cavalry making the trip to Ottawa on November 9th to fight for the North Star Cup. The Cavs are coming in-in red hot form looking maybe even better than the team they were last year at this time. Ottawa of course will be looking to lift the trophy at home... it should be fun. Let's talk about it all...

MLS Playoffs have started now, which means a lot of our Canuck boys have massive games going on. Whether it's Shaffelburg with Nashville, Waterman for Chicago, St. Clair cooking, Portland kind of being a pseudo Canadian team with FOUR of our boys there or of course the Whitecaps. Away from the MLS playoffs, we talk about our boys abroad, the striker dilemma for Canada at the moment and more! So let's chat...

2 Games to break down in this one! First the semi-final between Forge FC and Atletico Ottawa, where winner will host the final. Good news for Ottawa fans the final will be going back to Ottawa for the first time 3 years to maybe right the wrongs of that 2022 final. In the case of Forge they have one last chance to make the final and get something from this post season but it won't be easy. Calvary dispatched of York with relative ease and at the moment it feels the Cavs have ther Hammers' number. But anything can happen in the place offs and if anyone is able to pull of playoff magic it is Forge. So let's break down the games between Forge and Ottawa then Calvary and York!

100 episodes... are you kidding me?? That feels crazy! To celebrate 100, yes 100 whole episodes of Maple Footy there may not be a better way than by having on one of Forge FC's most important players this season Hoce Massunda! It was a great little chat where we talk about his journey and future goals with the club! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Yes, the hunt for the North Star Cup is BACK as we officially kicked the playoffs off, starting with the game at the Wanderers Ground between Halifax Wanderers and York United. It was a back affair for both clubs and a game of fine margins that had to be decided on penalties for just the second ever time int the CPL. So let's see what went right and what went wrong, let's talk about it!

Let's take a look at what some of our favourite Canucks did this past week in the soccer world. Whether they're in Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, England, the MLS or right here at home in the CPL, we're gonna talk about as many of our guys as we can! So let's talk about it!

Just like that... the October window comes to an end. I think it ends as a mixed bag for the National team, there are most definitely positives but also negatives too. The same can be said for this game in isolation. Some good and some bad. We need to start scoring goals though that is a must. We we 0-2 in games when it comes to scoring. That can't be the case in less than a year at the World Cup. But how about we focus more on our friendly with Colombia shall we? So let's talk about it.

The Canadian Men's national team made their long-awaited return to the Stade Saputo to take on Australia to kick of the October window. The crowd was UP for it, witha great atmosphere befitting of this return. The players were up for it too, but sadly, it didn't translate into a result on the pitch. Some of the same issues reared their head with us not being able to capitalize while on top. It's something the program has struggled with for a long time now... but time is running out to fix it between now and the World Cup. Regardless, let's talk about the overall performance from our boys in the 1-0 loss to the Socceroos.

Ahead of the October friendlies against Australia and Colombia, we're taking a look at some of the squad Jesse Marsch has chosen. There are some notable names that make their returns and some names that don't make the cut this time around. Either way, there's a lot to discuss and chat about, so... let's!
