In Episode 74 of the Maple Footy Podcast I talk all about this week's happens in Canadian Soccer and of course the English Prem! With the Prem the title has been wrapped up by Liverpool, something we've all known for a while but it's now officially official. The 3 teams have been confirmed relegated as well... Ipswich joins Leicester and Southampton. All that remains is the Champions League spots are still well and truly up for grabs. We also talk about the Canadian Premier League! Lots of matches there to discuss so let's discuss it all!
April 24th, 2025, something special happened inside of BC Place. Count me as someone who is jealous for not being in Vancouver to witness this historic night. So many records on the night, broken. History books were tossed out and rewritten. The Whitecaps recorded their highest attendance of the MLS Era, Brian White climbed their all-timer goalscorer charts to 4th with 65 goals across all competitions & last but not least, Messi has lost to his first-ever Canadian Club. It was truly a perfect night for the Whitecaps, from the fans in the stands to the players on the pitch, and staff on the touchline it was perfect. 2 Goals and NO away goals conceded which is a huge advantage to take into the second leg. It was massive. It was iconic. So let's talk about the Whitecaps' historic start to their season after such a historic night...
Episode 72 of the Maple Footy Podcast is now here, It's crunch time in the Prem while the CPL is just getting started! In the Prem, another team was added to the relegation list. Whilst Liverpool added 3 more points on the course to the Premier League crown. The European race heated up. Villa bested Newcastle, while Chelsea stole one in the dying seconds vs Fulham. Manchester City grabbed a big win as well! In the CPL, it was a great weekend in Canada, with some extremely entertaining games. Vancouver and Cavalry kicked off the weekend with a back match, Ottawa and York had a HIGH-scoring affair. Halifax won in their home opener over Pacific. Forge and Valour played out a cagey 1-1 draw with Valour. But there is still so much to talk about, so let's...
It is a genuine honour and pleasure to have had Noah Jensen on the podcast. He's a player I've absolutely loved watching play for Forge pretty much since the day he arrived in Hamilton. It was amazing to sit down and chat with him about his journey in football, some of his career highs, his idols, what he loves most about Forge & Hamilton and so much more. I have a list written down of guys I want to interview... Noah Jensen was on that listen, so this was simply incredible. A massive thank you to both Noah as well as Forge for letting this happen. Sit back and enjoy!
70 Episodes in... CRAZY! In this episode, I'm taking a look at the second weekend of CPL action, where Forge took on Pacific and left with 3 points. York hosted Halifax in a well-fought contest, and Ottawa offered the first true blowout of the season against Vancouver. But Terran Campbell wrote his name in the history books as he became the first player in league history to net 40. In the English Premier League, Liverpool pulled off a big win against the Hammers, Manchester City turned it around against Palace. The "United Derby" (if that's even a thing) was a one-sided affair. Oh, and Chelsea had another match against Ipswich... did they win? Well there was a lot to chat about so let's talk!
The footy don't stop around these parts! The Canadian Premier League is BACK! So we take a look at the results at the weekend, Forge FC started their season off right. York United equally so with a big-time super sub! Ottawa and Halifax put on an entertaining draw and Valour fell to Pacific. The English Premier League also continued the action but it feels like everyone fighting in the top half outside of Aston Villa dropped points. Liverpool put on one of the worst defensive showings of the season, the Manchester Derby was a snoozefest, and Chelsea faltered against Brentford due to some strange squad selection. Elsewhere Wolves all but confirmed their survival and Southampton were officially relegated as well. So there's lots to talk about... so let's talk!
Premier League action returned which means it's time to discuss the happenings in the prem! At the top of the table Liverpool stood strong, but Arsenal remain someone to potentially worry about. Forest bested Manchester United and Chelsea completed the double over Spurs. At the bottom of the table, Southampton pulled off a point against Palace, and Ipswich got a big-time win over Bournemouth. Wolves however kept one foot in the Prem with a win. Still lots more to talk about and discuss, so lets...
Next up on the Maple Footy Podcast... it's Forge FC Youngster Keito Lipovshek! We chatted about his journey in the pro game to this point, From Canada to the UK to Dubai and now back to Canada courtesy of Hamilton's Forge FC. We talk about where his love for the sport came from, what he looks forward to heading into this season with Forge, and maybe, just maybe we can find out what his pre-match song is. All that and more so let's go!
New Premier League this past weekend so I decided to take the opportunity to talk some Canadian Footy. There was so much to chat about, some injury updates, Alphonso Davies, Nathan "The Best" Saliba "In The World", a Liam Millar ACL update, and more. Some MLS action Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC faced off against each other with yours truly in attendance. CF Montreal proved to be the only team this side of the border that Chicago couldn't beat. Of course, some other Canadians shined in the MLS. We end it all off with some CPL predictions with the season starting THIS Saturday, April 5th.
And yeah... that's another international break come and gone. Whilst the international didn't go the way we wanted it to, I do think that beating the USA to end it off will definitely ease the pain a little bit and help us get to the next set of internationals sooner. The game did offer us a lot to talk about of course. We saw some rotation and a first-ever international goal for a certain man who's got his own way of measuring time... Tani Time! We played a lot better in this match than our previous outing so let's talk about it!
