Today, we sit down with Maryland's Comptroller, Peter Franchot--who I might add is one of the most accessible elected officials-- to talk about his roles, his failed Reform on Tap program, taxes, and his battle with the "Annapolis Machine" that is trying to strip him of some of his duties in a vendetta. And with Governor Hogan as a term-limited Governor, we find out if Peter Franchot might be next in line!

It happens every year...well at least for the past seven years! The Annapolis Film Festival is bringing more than 70 films to Annapolis March 21st to 24th and we sat down with the founders once again to see what was in store for their seventh go around of this fantastic event that has brought millions to the area economy!

Patti White and Lee Anderson are two of the busiest women in town. They operate FILMSTERS,  full fledged production company from their West Annapolis office, the wildly successful summer camp, and in their spare time...the Annapolis Film Festival which is expected to draw nearly 20,000 to Annapolis over a 4 day period.

We talk about last year's resounding success, the improvements and changes for this year. And a little bit about some of the films you can expect to see.  Sit back, and enjoy while we talk movie to Lee Anderson and Patti White! And then we headed across the Severn River to speak with the artist behind the graphics for the film festival and specifically about this year's tribute to those we lost in the Capital-Gazette shootings in June 2018.

Today, we continue our monthly series (no set schedule other than monthly) about beer.  We have a huge distributer of beer right here in Annapolis--Katcef Brothers Inc. and they have a ton of experts on hand to de-mystify beer for us.  Now, full disclosure--I like beer! I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.  This month, it is all about St. Paddy's Day!  We do things a bit differently in Annapolis so we celebrate the holiday a week early!  Joining us today is Mike LeViseur from Katcef Brothers which will be providing the libations for the weekend, and John O'Leary who is the brainchild of the Annapolis St. Patrick's Day Parade and all the events that have sprung from it!

More taxes! Honey, get the pitchforks and brooms, I'll get the kerosene and matches! Hold your horses. It's not often when a tax is a good thing.  But have a listen and you might agree. We speak with Connie DelSignore who is the CEO of Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County which is the Destination and Marketing Organization for the County.  They commissioned a study that shows that we're losing out on more than $2million dollars a year without the 7% lodging tax. Now keep in mind, that tax is paid by THE GUEST! And yes, as this winds its way through the legislative channels in Anne Arundel County, there may be a permit fee from the City or County, but with that comes a lot of benefits. The cost of living in Maryland is staggering. But, when you live in a state that has the country's best flag, what would you expect? So how do you level the playing field? Raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour might be a good start, right? Welp, it's a little more complicated than that when you're a small-business owner. 

Jared Littmann, owner of K&B True Value and former alderman of Ward 5 in Annapolis, could be described as a Progressive Democrat. But he's not a fan of HB 166, which would raise the minimum wage by almost 50%. He must have a pretty good reason for this, right? He does. Jared breaks down what this legislation would mean from the perspective of someone who owns a family-run business.
