Mason's latest workplace saga takes center stage after a Corvette, missing parts, questionable tires and a management meeting turn into an argument about everything that's wrong with the operation. Before it's over, Mason is essentially inviting management to fire him — only to discover that his own manager plans to leave.

That leaves one important question: Is Mason about to get promoted or fired?

Mike and Sarah provide a little relationship counseling along the way, including Sarah's appreciation for the rare compliment from Mike, his legendary ability to mispronounce words, and the discovery that Mike may possess a naturally occurring flotation device.

Then Sarah starts exploring alternative sources of income. Foot-fetish content? Phone calls? TikTok story time? She has options — and apparently enough unbelievable stories to keep the internet entertained for a while, including the time she hooked up with a guy and later realized he appeared to be squatting in the house.

Sarah also pitches the Cuddle House, where customers could pay for completely non-sexual human contact, spooning, back tickles or even having someone read them a book. Mason immediately begins stress-testing the business model in exactly the way you'd expect.

The conversation eventually wanders through AI and books, preserving physical media, Michael Jackson records, the Book of Enoch, religion, prostitution, Hot Shots!, David Duchovny, Kathy Ireland and the uncomfortable realization that celebrities you remember perfectly are now people younger generations have never heard of.

It's relationships, work drama, terrible business ideas, technology, nostalgia and entirely too much information — exactly where the murky waters were apparently taking us this week.

Sarah has been listening to previous episodes of The Mason & Friends Show, and she's got a few corrections to make.

Episode 1051 begins with Sarah finally taking responsibility for the infamous hairy toe comment from the Fourth of July conversation. But according to Sarah, the story wasn't about tearing another woman down — she was trying to quietly alert a friend to something before somebody else noticed.

That leads Mason, Mike and Sarah into a conversation about body image, friendships, hurt feelings, women supporting women and whether a real friend should tell you about the rogue hair nobody else has mentioned.

Sarah isn't finished correcting the record.

Next comes the Soul Spice incident, involving Mike's trip to D.C., a visit to an edible kitchen and a promise — or possible misunderstanding — involving Korean food that Sarah desperately wanted brought home. Sarah presents her version of the evidence, and Mike's reputation for thoughtful romantic gestures goes on trial.

Then there's the pottery shop.

Sarah recounts an incredibly uncomfortable encounter involving another customer, her child and an entire room watching the situation unfold. Mike wisely prevents Sarah from saying exactly what she's thinking, which may have saved everyone involved from an entirely different story.

That somehow inspires plans for a future Mason & Friends pottery adventure, complete with aliens, mushrooms, dragons, way too many paint colors and cameras to capture the disaster.

Finally, Mike and Sarah attempt to explain one of the strangest movies they've watched together. A guy finds a wish stick and wishes that the woman he loves will love him more than anyone else in the world.

It works.

Way too well.

What follows involves obsession, duct tape, terrible decisions, a brick, a dead cat and the important reminder that getting exactly what you wish for may be considerably worse than being rejected.

It's another voyage through relationships, friendship, food, movies and completely unnecessary details aboard the rickety ship.

The rickety ship reaches Episode 1050, and nobody has gotten any better at staying on topic.

This trip through the murky waters starts with a terrible sporting weekend involving pickleball, bowling and questionable athletic ability. The guys break down bowling technique, enormous bowling balls, terrible rental shoes and the unique experience of trying to find bowling shoes when you've got massive feet.

From there, Mike has some things to get off his chest about work.

He's surrounded by people being paid good money to do jobs they apparently don't want to do — leaving Mike to come behind them and actually finish the work. That sparks a conversation about professionals using Google, YouTube and AI to figure out how to do the very jobs they're supposedly qualified to perform.

Mason admits even years of working with automotive parts sometimes requires a Google search, but Mike has a better example: getting locked out of his truck and watching the locksmith search online for instructions on how to get into it.

The first guy fails.

Another locksmith arrives with almost exactly the same equipment and opens it.

Tools versus skills. There's apparently a difference.

The guys also revisit some legendary warehouse days, including frozen projectiles, coworkers beating the hell out of each other, forklifts and the night an entire department was told the power would be out for several hours.

Naturally, everybody went to Hooters.

Naturally, the power came back on almost immediately.

Naturally, getting everybody back to work became a problem.

Eventually the conversation heads back to growing up in Virginia in the 1990s — working terrible jobs, Applebee's, 99-cent gas, cruising back roads, smoking with friends, stopping at random cookouts, rolling joints and spending entire nights driving around because there really wasn't anything else to do.

The guys compare that experience to teenagers today. Maybe they aren't cruising the same back roads, but they're still hanging out with their friends — except now they can meet online, fire up Grand Theft Auto and virtually drive around together without ever leaving home.

Technology changes.

Apparently screwing around with your friends doesn't.

Episode 1049 takes the rickety ship from books and horse racing to artificial intelligence, MySpace, LimeWire, He-Man and the return of physical media — which sounds about right for The Mason & Friends Show.

Mike talks about the books he's working through, financial education, his growing to-be-read pile and plans to visit a bookstore and meet authors. That somehow turns into the misery of driving all day without Bluetooth and being forced back into the ancient technology known as terrestrial radio.

Ju Unit has been providing some education of his own after taking the boys to the horse track, where they get their first taste of the atmosphere surrounding horse racing. The day's adventures eventually include a trip to Hooters and a discussion about whether the restaurant experience is quite what it used to be.

Then the conversation heads into technology.

The guys talk about AI and the warnings science fiction has been giving us for decades, including Avengers: Age of Ultron and 1984. From there, it's a short trip back to the early internet and the glory days of MySpace, Tom, Napster and LimeWire.

Remember downloading music and having absolutely no idea whether you were getting the song you wanted or a virus that was about to destroy your computer?

Good times.

The nostalgia continues with Masters of the Universe, He-Man, Skeletor, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Soulcalibur, along with the disappointing experience of revisiting something you loved as a kid and discovering that it might actually have been terrible.

Finally, the crew gets into the resurgence of physical media. Vinyl records, DVDs, books and comic books are finding an audience again, and the guys discuss one major advantage: nobody can suddenly remove your DVD from a streaming service or change the physical copy sitting on your shelf.

That leads into A Different World, the shows that influenced us growing up, and a much more complicated discussion about separating art from the artist when troubling facts about a performer or creator become part of the story.

Books, radio, horse racing, AI, the old internet, cartoons, video games and cultural nostalgia — another completely unplanned trip through the murky waters.
