This podcast is based on the sayings, wisdom, and quotations of the great scholar al-Habib Zayn bin Sumayt, transmitted by one of his students and captured in the book al-Fawa’id al-Mukhtarah. This seminal work contains advice on a wide range of relevant subjects to daily life, drawing on examples from the Haba’ib from Hadramout. Shaykh Abdurragmaan transmits this advice within the context of the modern challenges facing Muslims living in the West.
In the last episode, the importance of wudu was discussed as a precursor to the discussion of salaah. It must be noted that this podcast is not meant to cover the essentials of salaah but rather anecdotes and lessons regarding the prayer. Lesson #1 draws on appreciating differing views and not obsessing with one correct view. A view held by one Madhab may be incorrect. However, because the scholars followed a methodology and process and applied ijtihad, deducing law from the Qur’an and Sunna, the ruling reached is a valid one even though it may be incorrect. Lesson #2 pivots on how venerable Shaykhs respect all Schools of law, to the extent that they often follow the Madhab practices of the locality when they travel. Lesson #3 reminds us of the serenity and calmness which must be afforded those engrossed in salaah. If reciting the Qur’an aloud is considered a haraam action if it disturbs them, then what about the use of cell phones in the Masjid?

In this podcast, Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan starts by expressing the importance of wudu. How even though it is something Muslims do day in and day out. It is something that one must reflect on. He goes on to give some important insights on wudu and mentions that there are many lessons to be learned from wudu.
Shaykh Abdurragmaan goes on to explain that when one breaks their wudu it is a good practice to renew ones wudu again and thereafter perform two units of prayer, as this was the practice of the great companion of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) Bilal (Allah be pleased with him). It was one of the acts that lead the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) to hearing his footsteps in paradise.
Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan ends by explaining that whoever perfects their wudu, they will perfect their prayer, and how wudu is an act of worship that is sought itself.
