  • TMP-Ep84 - Experience Over Material & other ideas to fight the existential vacuum
Every month, I have the honor to speak to a group of caring parents in Canada. This group was original started meeting during the time of COVID "stay at home" measures in order to discuss ways to help their children deal with the issues of being socially isolated while trying to continue their educations. Since then, it has evolved into something much greater.

In this episode, we discuss "experience over material" in holiday gift giving, and also find ourselves exploring quite a few other topics in Logotherapy. Enjoy!

  • TMP-Ep82 - Functional Medicine and Meaning in Dating w/ Dr. Kris Sargent
The only thing more impressive than Dr. Kris Sargent's extensive CV is her personality. It really wasn't hard to find helpful topics from her wide ranging knowledge to talk about - but we had definitely not planned to talk about her dating life right from the start! She did an amazing job connecting her believes about meeting people to making meaningful decisions - and from there we were off to the races to discuss her experiences and recommendations as a doctor of functional medicine. Enjoy!

  • TMP-Ep81 - Discovering Meaning on the Appalachian Trail w/ Jay Thompson
Training for physical fitness and athletic competition - running, cycling, swimming, walking, weight-lifting, hiking, etc. - or even engaging in these activities just for fun can help us build resilience and bounce back from difficult times. Jay Thompson, and his 1700 miles on the Appalachian Trail, are perfect examples of this! All those miles give you a lot of time to thing, and to draw comparisons between hiking, life, and work. In this episode, Jay share about his most recent hike of 150+ miles in 10 days, and what he distilled from that journey.

  • TMP-Ep80 - How to Find Meaning in Times of Stress: Focus on Youth and Parents
I had a wonderful opportunity this week to speak to one our podcast listeners, and a group of parents she has been working with for the past few years. We had a great discussion about the similarities and differences in parenting young adults in Canada and the US - and what it means to help our kids through times of stress. Even though the focus is on parents and kids, there are a lot of tips and ideas for all of us to use. Enjoy!

    From the parents' email list:
We had a very insightful session last night with Dr. Daniel Franz, licensed psychotherapist, Logotherapist, Mentor, Coach and Speaker.

Our questions and discussion ranged from "why is it harder for people from affluent homes and comforts to get motivated to take up challenges", to "how can parents provide an environment for their children to grow up as responsible adults".
Dr. Dan talked about the opportunity to 'innovate in times of uncertainty'.

  • TMP-Ep78 - Demystifying Diagnostics and the Psychotherapeutic Process
I've really been looking forward to bringing you this episode! After these past few weeks of awesome interviews and amazing chats, this is an opportunity for you and I to just chat about logotherapy and mental wellness...

It is human nature to want to label phenomena so that we can better understand it - the same is true with mental health issues or illnesses, but that doesn't always prove to be helpful. In this episode, we explore the nature of diagnosing mental illness, and pull back the curtain on the process of psychotherapy and, specifically, logotherapy. Enjoy!

  • TMP-Ep77 - Masterful Storytelling & Healing Hypnotherapy w/ Steve Cohen
You can quickly tell that Steve Cohen is living a meaningful life of helping others - of transcending the self - through his work as an RN and hypnotherapist; but it's his masterfully storytelling that makes you forget he is using time-test techniques to encourage people to go beyond their perceived limits. You might even notice he had me completely enthralled with his stories - I'm not sure if it was the stories, or the issues with my mic, but he silent through much of this podcast - sorry about that, but I hope you enjoy anyway!
