In this episode Shelley-Anne Salisbury talks to Harold Aspis, an experienced and highly-regarded lawyer and arbitrator. Harold has been an associate at a New York City law firm, general counsel of two companies and a senior vice president and legal counsel at a German merchant bank. Harold has a B.A. from Columbia University and a Juris Doctor from its law school and spent his junior year of university studying at the London School of Economics. Harold currently serves as an arbitrator on the panels of the American Arbitration Association, the Society of Maritime Arbitrators and FINRA (the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority). His colleagues have described him as a 'superb lawyer' and as someone who is a very thoughtful, practical and skilled negotiator.
Harold says “Legal disputes begin in emotion and end in settlement. That's why mediation is so important- it can create an environment in which the parties are encouraged and empowered to reach that settlement”
