  • From Judgment to Compassion: Rethinking Addiction, Recovery, and Hope

    Send us Fan Mail

Are we willing to look at addiction with compassion instead of judgment? In this solo episode, I open up about my feelings on last week’s “Beyond the Headlines” and Josh’s struggle with 7oh, inviting you to rewatch that conversation through a more empathetic lens. Addiction and dependence don’t discriminate, and while many suffer in silence, Josh bravely showed just how powerful and dangerous this compound can be.

We’ll explore what rising recovery TikToks, news stories, and real-life struggles say about our culture—and tackle the hard question: if demand drives the problem, how do we reduce that demand?

I also share a more hopeful update: wrapping up 2 years and 2 months of caregiving with a surprisingly positive outcome and a deep sense of gratitude.

Tune in if you’re ready for an honest, compassionate look at addiction, recovery, and hope.

Born with fetal alcohol syndrome, abandoned at birth, and raised by loving adoptive parents, Josh never set out to be an addict. He was a dedicated athlete until a devastating 9/11 ATV accident left him with a broken neck, a paralyzed arm, and a lifetime of pain.

We trace Josh’s path from prescription opiates to powerful synthetic opioids like 7-OH, his escalating dependence, legal trouble, failed treatments, sedation detox, and heartbreaking relapse within a day of coming home.

If you want to truly understand addiction, synthetic opioids, and the hidden danger of “gas station heroin,” watch this conversation. Josh’s journey may change how you see addiction—and might help save a life.

  • When Death Speaks, Life Finally Tells The Truth

    Send us Fan Mail

Death doesn’t just end a story—it reveals what truly mattered in it. In this Unfiltered Friday episode, I share the deeply personal story of my last patient, David, a man who spent his life in the oil fields and his final days on a quiet front porch, telling me about his childhood, his work, and his regrets.

You’ll hear about his vigil, his send off, and what it meant to stand beside someone who had no one else. I open up about the emotional shift from working in the ER—where I witnessed people’s worst days—to hospice, where I watch life slowly fade in real time.

If you’ve ever wrestled with grief, purpose, or how to live more fully, this raw, honest memorial will challenge how you see life, death, and love. Tune in to learn how dying can teach us how to truly live.

What if the real answer to “Why are we here?” isn’t out there, but buried beneath your own unhealed story? Together, we’ll explore how we quietly support a system that keeps humanity going—while ignoring the deeper truth within us that’s begging to be seen. I’ll walk you through my own journey of becoming comfortable with who I really am, and invite you to ask what alignment means for you.

  • Rethink Your Route to Freedom: Finding Who You Are in the Life You Already Have

    Send us Fan Mail

Are you really where you want to be in life—or just where you thought you were supposed to end up? In this deeply personal episode, I pause and ask myself that exact question, inspired in part by the Nurse Dad Podcast. I look back over five decades of life, tracing the recurring themes of service, integrity, and doing what’s right, and ask: was I actually seeking freedom all along?

You’ll hear how I discovered that the freedom I now have looks very different from what I once envisioned—and why that’s not a bad thing. I also share how I’m learning to accept every part of who I am and how my unique experiences can be used to help others on their own journeys.

If you’ve ever questioned your path, your purpose, or your definition of freedom, this episode is for you.

  • One Step Removed: When Caregiving Became a Two-Year Detour | Unfiltered Friday

    Send us Fan Mail

Sometimes the thing you're called to do for a season isn't where you're supposed to stay forever.

This Unfiltered Friday begins with September 11th and remembering Buck on what would have been his birthday. But it also forced me to look at where the last two years of my own life have gone.

Caregiving was supposed to be about helping someone else. Instead, it became a two-year detour that changed me physically and emotionally. I injured my back. Pain became something I had to manage. That road eventually contributed to a dependency on 7-OH—and getting out of it has forced me to reconsider what serving other people should look like in the next chapter of my life.

I'm not walking away from people.

I'm moving one step removed from hands-on caregiving.

Because I've realized that some of the things that fulfill me most still involve serving people—they just do it through connection. Sitting behind a microphone and having conversations. Meeting strangers while driving Uber. Listening to someone's story. Creating a space where people can say things they might not say anywhere else.

Maybe my purpose was never simply to take care of people. Maybe it was to connect with them.

In this episode, I unpack the emotional cost of caregiving, the back injury and dependency that followed, what Buck's life continues to mean to me, and why stepping away from one form of service doesn't mean abandoning service altogether.

Sometimes getting back on your path requires recognizing just how far a detour has taken you.

  • Who Is Caring for the Caregiver? | How Putting Others First Led to Burnout, Dependency & Recovery

    Send us Fan Mail

For years, I believed that putting everyone else first was simply what a good husband, father, caregiver, and provider was supposed to do.

Then one back injury changed everything.

In this deeply personal episode of The Men of the House Podcast, I share the story I've never fully told—from caring for a 97-year-old bedbound veteran, to developing a 15-month dependency on 7-OH while trying to keep showing up for everyone else.

This isn't an episode about addiction.

    It's an episode about identity.

It's about the danger of believing your worth is measured only by how much you sacrifice for others. It's about people-pleasing, burnout, chronic stress, and learning that the greatest act of service sometimes begins with saying "yes" to yourself.

Whether you're a caregiver, parent, first responder, veteran, healthcare worker, or simply someone who feels responsible for everyone around you, this conversation is for you.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • Why caregivers often ignore their own needs
    • How one back injury led to a long road of dependency
    • The hidden cost of people-pleasing and always saying "yes"
    • Why boundaries aren't selfish—they're necessary
    • Recovery, healing, and choosing health over hustle
    • The question every caregiver needs to ask:
"Who is caring for the caregiver?"

If this episode resonates with you, please consider following the show, leaving a review, and sharing it with someone who spends their life caring for others.

Sometimes the strongest people are the ones who need permission to receive care themselves.

Remember: You can't pour from an empty cup.

  • The Dash Between Birth & Death | Why Being Present Might Be Your Greatest Purpose

    Send us Fan Mail

What if the “dash” between your birth and death dates is where your real purpose lives—and you’re sleepwalking through it? In this raw, solo episode, I open up about an intense week of hospital visits, a client’s passing, and the emotional weight of being a caregiver and empath when your superpower starts to feel like kryptonite.

I share a sleepless-night journey into TikTok Live—a wild digital bazaar of creators, healers, and musicians—where a chance connection with Brazilian fans of a band I’d just interviewed reminded me that music, love, and even death are universal threads that bind us.

If you’ve been feeling drained, disconnected, or rushed through life, this conversation will convince you to slow down, reconnect, and be the person you want to meet—starting today.

  • 🎙️ Turning 50, Letting Go & Saying Yes to What Matters Most

    Send us Fan Mail

    I'm turning 50.

And while some people see that as getting older, I'm starting to see it differently.

In this episode of The Men of the House Podcast, I reflect on what it means to reach this milestone and the perspective that comes with it. Like most people, I've spent time wondering how life might have turned out if I had made different choices, taken different jobs, moved to different places, or followed different paths.

The truth is, none of us really know.

Maybe the path we're on is exactly where we're supposed to be.

Maybe the universe, God, fate, or whatever you choose to call it has been guiding us all along.

As I approach 50, I'm reminded that if I live to the average lifespan, I may already be two-thirds of the way through this journey. If I make it to 100, maybe I'm only halfway there.

Either way, one thing has become crystal clear:

Life is too short to spend it worrying about what other people think.

This conversation also builds on something I've been reflecting on lately—the importance of slowing down and being present.

We're constantly chasing the next goal, the next opportunity, the next version of ourselves. But what if the best years of our lives aren't somewhere in the future? What if they're happening right now?

    In this episode, I share:

    • My honest thoughts about turning 50
    • Why we often romanticize the lives we didn't live
    • The freedom that comes from caring less about outside opinions
    • Why being present matters more than ever
    • How perspective changes as we age
    • Learning to say "yes" to joy and "no" to everything else
    • Why time may be our most valuable asset

The older I get, the less interested I am in impressing people and the more interested I am in experiencing life.

    Traveling.

    Creating.

    Connecting.

    Laughing.

Being present with the people I love.

And saying yes to the things that genuinely bring me joy.

Because none of us know how much time we have left.

But we do get to decide how we spend the time we have.

    🎧 In This Episode:

    ✅ Reflections on turning 50
