Mental Health In Sports: How To Be Mentally Healthy and Happy - Episode 12 - 1st Solo Ep
We have 11 episodes released and I thought it time that we have a little chat about something important.
I had been wanting to do a solo episode eventually but with everything going on in the world of sports around Mental Health it felt like this was the perfect timing to do it.
As a mental performance coach I work with athletes regularly and they share their struggles with confidence and feeling like they aren't measuring up.
But there are also moments where they share about their anxiety and more serious challenges as it pertains to their mental health.
Then you see athletes like Naomi Osaka being so transparent as well as the big news about Simone Biles and you realize how much this isn't talked about enough.
In this episode we use the recent events of Simone Biles pulling out of the 2020(1) Olympics Team competition in gymnastics and Osaka's recent admissions around mental health to talk about how we can be more sensitive and what are some tools to be a support in these situations.
There is also advice to parents, families, and coaches of athletes.
I also mention other resources and initiatives that are being formed and available as a result of the greater focus and acceptance of being able to talk about mental health.
As a society we can do more to support those in need and learn not to make light of someone's challenges just because it doesn't look like we think it should.
Mental health is called the invisible Injury because it looks different on everyone.
Please reach out to someone if you are struggling and let me know what you found valuable about this conversation.
