People often think that only medical professionals serve onboard our hospital ships. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Each year around 1,500 crew rotate through our hospital ship the Africa Mercy. They volunteer from over 50 different nations to serve in a variety of roles onboard. 

Cross Scott is a mechanic in Tucson, Arizona. He was test-driving a customer’s car when he saw a car was on the side of the road with its hazard lights on. 

The crewmembers onboard our hospital ship come from over 50 nations. And they learn so much from one another!

Sai’Douba was a healthy 18-year-old in Guinea when a gas explosion changed his life. Burns covered his entire body. 

A Mercy Ships volunteer shared an unforgettable experience.

In 2019, 32 men and women in Guinea participated in our Mercy Ships Food for Life program. They learned the ins and outs of nutrition, crop production, and organic agriculture.

It was late one evening onboard our hospital ship. Volunteer lab technician Julie was on-call testing. She was going to deliver units of blood to the Africa Mercy operating room.  

Our hospital ships go to countries where surgical care isn’t available. People who’ve been waiting years for medical help come to us.
