Eighteen-year-old Assiatou had been sold at the age of 11 and gave birth to a stillborn baby at age 14.

Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, is located in Harrison County —where one in five people struggle to pay for food. College President Dr. Herman Felton Jr. decided to launch a food pantry. 

A big surprise awaited eye surgeon Richard Newsom on our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. James Smellie, an old school friend, was also performing surgeries onboard. 

Lt. Col. Glenn Mandeville is a physician assigned to the Air National Guard. The Guard serves the community, state, and nation.

Dr. Paul Brand grew up in India as the son of missionary parents. He studied in England to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Our hospital ships are like floating cities. Almost all the skills needed in a small city are needed onboard our ships.
