Eleven-year-old Diama came to our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, for surgery to release a burn contracture on her right leg.  

Aliou is a 5-year-old surgical patient onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. He’s famous for his rambunctious and charismatic personality.  

It was 5 AM on February 18, 1952. An oil tanker, the SS Pendleton, was fighting blinding snow and violent seas off the coast of Massachusetts. 

Mercy Ships has volunteers from around 50 countries working on our hospital ships. 

Fifteen weeks of our Guinea field service focused on the Mercy Ships plastic surgery program. Over 150 people received free reconstructive surgeries on the Africa Mercy.

Malcolm Alexander spent 38 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He was exonerated on January 30, 2018, after DNA proved his innocence.

Dr. Sherif Emil is head of Children’s Hospital in Montreal, Canada. He’s a pediatric surgeon who volunteers onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.

Ronald Read was a gas station attendant and JC Penney janitor in Vermont.
