Our volunteers are more than just volunteers—they’re also a walking blood bank!  Dr. Mark Shrime explains:

Five-year-old Dakota Pitts asked his mom if one of his dad’s fellow police officers could escort him to school.  You see, it was his first day back after his father was killed in the line of duty. 

A volunteer surgeon describes the transformation of a young woman who, as a small girl, received a free surgery onboard our hospital ship:

Adam and Tresor like to do what little boys like to do … race on tricycles, play games, and laugh.  

“Your son has juvenile diabetes.”  Bart Millard’s jaw dropped.  Life was about to change big-time.

Emelia is a native of Ghana.  Her brother served onboard our hospital ship in 2008.  And eight years later, she joined the ship in Madagascar and serves in the galley.  Listen:

In 1995 Malomah and Mariama Cole fled rebel violence in Sierra Leone. . One night they sheltered in an abandoned farmhouse. They heard sobbing outside and found a small orphan girl.

A 12-year-old girl in a remote part of Cameroon had a chance to get a free surgery to save her life.  But our hospital ship was hundreds of miles away, and her family couldn’t travel without proper identification.

Monica, Marla, and Sonia were enjoying themselves at The Fig Restaurant in Santa Monica, California.  A woman at the next table got up to go to the restroom.  Monica saw the woman’s date pour something into the woman’s wineglass.
