Imagine a book with pages that are actually water filters.  And imagine that each page could filter 100 liters of filthy water to 99.9% purity … for less than 10 cents!  That’s what Theresa Dankovich at Carnegie Mellon University has spent several years developing.

Many of the patients who come to our hospital ship have lived in the shadows for many years.  Often friends and family have abandoned them.  Their physical abnormality is viewed as a curse.  But when they come to our hospital ship, they receive acceptance and something else that’s very special.

For 30 years, the White House Restaurant served dignitaries.  But its owner, Bruno Serato, is best-known for a program he calls Catarina’s Club, in honor of his mother.  It feeds 2,000 needy children every day, and we previously aired a Mercy Minute about it.

Krissy Close is busy.  She helps lead the Medical Capacity-Building Team onboard our hospital ship and is studying for her master’s degree.

Florida police office Bobby White responded to a complaint about youth playing basketball too loudly.  But he didn’t scold the kids or break up the game.  Instead, he joined them and promised to come back for a re-match.

People come to our patient screenings desperately hoping for a life-changing surgery onboard our hospital ship.  Volunteer Matt Tveite describes a surprising moment of mercy.

The mood had been a little tense in the ward onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy.  That happens sometimes with so many nurses, patients, and caregivers working and living in the same restricted space.

Dr. Paul McMaster volunteers with Doctors Without Borders.  He said, “I’ve worked in a lot of difficult situations before, but none like my emergency assignment in the conflict zone in northwest Syria.”  Inside a dusty chalk cave, they created a fully-equipped sterile environment.  The team set up an inflatable operating tent and six emergency beds. 

Mercy Ships crew member Marissa Hall was the first person to touch Julien when he came to the Africa Mercy for surgery.  He had suffered for years with a melon-sized tumor on his chin.  But, as Marissa explained, Julien also touched her

The Carol Burnett Show was on primetime television for 11 years.  At the end of every episode, Carol would quickly tug at her ear.  The gesture was an “I love you” sign to her grandmother, Mabel "Nanny" Eudora Jones White.
