Recently a creative crew member described what she calls “ward warriors.”

Fifteen-year-old Ethan King started a nonprofit called Charity Ball to give high-quality, professional soccer balls to kids who can’t afford them. He got the idea when he went with his dad to Mozambique to fix water wells. He took out his soccer ball and was quickly joined by many children. He noticed their soccer balls were basically plastic bags with twine wrapped around them.

Birthdays are special days. But spending your birthday in a hospital can be a bit of a downer … unless you’re onboard our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy!

Many of the patients that come to our hospital ship for help have terrible deformities and scars. For example, volunteer Nurse Natalie Bullock worked with a little girl with terrible burn scars on her face. Natalie explains how she looks beyond those physical scars to see the heart of the patient.

Christopher Carswell had his first seizure in his elementary school’s cafeteria. Afterward, he was fearful of sleeping in his own room, terrified that he would have a seizure and die.
